I have a 2007 Dodge Dakota SLT, 3.7 V-6, is it safe to use 5w-30 or stay with 5-20. I have 18000 miles on truck.

Either one is fine....I've used both and notice little, if any difference in a car that is spec'd for either.

My mom's 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee has a 3.7 and it states only to use 5w30. The 3.7 you have is basically unchanged, so I would doubt that using 5w30 could cause trouble.

I try to stay out of these 5W-20 -vs- 5W-30 threads. As soon as one guy recommends 5W-30, there's always another guy right there with his 5W-20 recommendation. It's totally futile to post in these threads.

Let your engine decides which it likes best.

So try them both. Just pick one for a starter. Being winter is approaching, now is a great time to try-out the 5W-20.
