I have a 07 dodge dakota 3.7 V6, I've been using 5w-20 since the truck was new, the oil cap is 5w-20,but a friend of my has the same truck his oil cap shows 5w-30. Whats up with that?

It could be as simple as they used a left over cap for your buddy's truck. Or the truck came from the factory missing the fill cap and the dealer stuck what ever cap they had on it when they did the pre-delivery prep. Use the oil that the OM suggests is my recommendation.
What year is your buddies truck? The 07s and newer are spec'd for 20 weight, and the 06s and older take 30 weight.
