Hello guys. Noob here. Just wondering what type of filter do you guys recommend for my 2 current daily drivers. One is a Honda w/ 3.0 V6 & the other is a Chevy 3.1 V6. Going to be extending my OCI's out to 5k miles using Valvoline Maxlife on both cars. Would like to tap into the wealth of knowledge on this site and ask a few oil filter questions. I did a search, but was not really able to form a conclusive decision. Do you guys feel that a standard filter ie. ac delco, supertech, purolater would do a sufficient job of filtering for 5k miles? or should I step to premium filter like a purolater pure one, wix, etc? or will a "standard" filter do the job?

A standard filter would probably do the job, but considering the price difference between them, just use a Purolator Premium Plus or a Wix and all should be well.

ac delco, stp, supertech will get you 5K intervals.

pure one, wix, napa gold will get you 10K+, if you wanted to use the filter twice. some say the filters filter better after some use on them, most manuals state changing the filter every other oil change.

Define most. I have yet to see anything but a brand new Honda manual actually say that.

The notion has been around since the introduction of unleaded fuel. My 1977 Chevette had that maintenance notion. Not all engines ..but many.

The simple end of it is if you use mileage as your criteria, you could change it every other OCI. If you use time, you changed it every OCI. The sensible assumption is that with mileage determining the oil change, that loading can't be that much. It implies that the warm up miles are fewer.

I use either NAPA Gold or Wix and sleep well at night.

Plus, if I'm a little late in getting the oil changes, therefore extending the interval to 6,000-7,000 miles, I know that the filter is still just fine.... whereas with a cheaper filter, I'd be wondering...

Wix filter on my Subaru's go 15,000 miles. UOA insoluable level (0.2) is unchanged at 7500 miles compared to 15,000 miles. You are worrying too much.

I run Motorcraft Fl820S for 10,000 mile on my 4.6 Modular, which is twice the manufacturer's recommendation. Insoluables again at 0.2.

It's not a problem in my vehicles.

Ive taken the STP filters to almost 7K on the fiances cavalier. Insolubles on the UOA were under the recommended amount.

You're fine with the mentioned above :)
