5000 mile Auto-RX Clean Cycle

Somehow things got in the way and I ended up running Auto-RX in my '96 Saturn SL2 (109k miles) for a little more than 5000 miles. Auto-RX did seem to reduce consumption slightly, but I didn't keep official figures so I'm unsure. I think total make-up oil was around 2 qts over 7200 miles.

I just changed out the oil today (Chevron 5w30 and Fram TG oil filter) after 7200 miles total. The oil filter felt much heavier than normal to me, but it may have just been my imagination. I plan to cut it apart next week.

How long should I run the rinse phase? I have Chevron 5w30 and a Purolator filter in there right now.

3000 miles rinse- or more, if you're like me. You went 7200 miles- now that's getting your money's worth out of a good product! What oil did you use?

Chevron 5w30 SM. I'm using the same oil again.

I just use whatever 5w30 that's on sale for $0.49/qt at the local parts store. During my post-oil change test drive, I picked up a case of Formula Shell 5w30 for the same price.

I never see oil on sale for .49 around here. That's a great deal. Better than FAR in my opinion. Let us know if the ARX knocks down your consumption on that Saturn.
