You'll have better performance if you leave the half a quart out. Remember, Smokey Yunick once said, "worry about the ounces, and the pounds will fall off"

So what do you do when the owners manual says 6.1 qts, and if I use just a 5 qt jug from Wally, and it brings the level up to just below the max fill line?

The first time I put in 6 qt it was way over the max fill line. These days I just put in 5 qts and call it a day. The engine is still running after doing this for the last 3 OCI's, 15,000 miles. Including 2000 of those miles fully loaded with 1300 lb of me the GF, luggage and the Beemer and it accessories.

The truck doesnt use oil so even in my anal retentive life, I am content. And the word is 'OM"

Why would you want that stuff in your engine?

+1 If you search UOA reports and find them useful it seems to do pretty well in the reports when added to the oil.

Anyone thought about those new-fangled "Eco Boxes" that many oil companies are putting out?

If I recall, Pennzoil/SOPUS was the first, at least to appear at my local Walmart TLE....

But even Shell, Rotella, and Quaker State have them now.

Apparantly it's the new "bulk" oil. Gone are the days of the 55 gallon "drums" of "bulk" oil I guess.....?

Comes with a big "box" of oil, and a measuring/pouring container and all.

Granted, it's quite a pricy "initial purchase" but if you already have your "favorite" oil, it could possibly save some money

The last time I saw them, they were in the $80-$100 range through Advanced/AutoZone or one of those parts stores.....

Or, just go with ease of use, and go with the half-quart (pint sized) bottle of Marvel Mystery Oil.....think last time I bought it, the bottle was like $2.53 or something.....if you are all that worried about the half-quart....

With our extended oil changes many users are using, I don't think I'd "trust" a half-quart of opened oil, sitting on a shelf for 1 year or more.....if ya know what I mean.....Once that seal is broken, who knows what may find it's way in there. At least with the MMO, it COMES in 1/2 quarts

so it's an easy top off....

But even so, I don't think being a half quart low will affect the vehicle that much......if you notice any weird noises than top it off
