48 hours into no refined sugar products

Good job, next have a look at refined grain products, they get transformed to glucose when in your body.

Good for you! Can you share the link?

I definitely have a sweet tooth. I can’t say I eat candy for breakfast, and I don’t drink more than a few sodas per year, but I like sweets. Addiction is a strong word, but certainly it causes a very strong appetite for me when I am in the mood (not always and not necessarily too much). Regardless I recognize the effect sugar has, and I know it’s not good… I’d be interested to try a fast on sugars at some point…

Just need to be sure that saying no on one thing doesn’t result in getting “comfort” from some other foods that are also not great…
JH,

Still looking for the video. Have not found it yet. I was watching a episode of "bald and bankrupt" and the video came up on autoplay.

Searching youtube there are many on the subject. I will post some of them as I watch them.

Here is one that states sugar is eight times more addictive than cocaine. Note I do not have the same scenario as the woman in this video. I never worried about what meal I would have next, etc.

Thanks.

I want too. I have cut back on sodas I was drinking 3-4 32 ounce sodas a day but something in my mind told me to stop so now I’ve pretty much cut back to one on work days and 2 on regular days. I know still not completely gone but better. As long as I can have sugar in my coffee I’ll be ok because it’s no good without sugar lol. Now I gotta stop buying Butterfinger and PayDay bars. And I’m young I don’t want to destroy myself now.
No offense but all the fast food crap and Chinese food pics of what you are eating don’t help your cause. I couldn’t tell ya last time I had a pop.

I know. It’s just so good it’s hard to resist. I’ve been craving Chinese since the last time I had it.
IMO Chinese isn’t as bad as some other things assuming that you avoid the fried carbs, noodles, and rice. Yes it has a lot of salt and fat and whatnot. Some sauces are sweet-ish. But if you err on the meat and vegetables end of things, you can actually do pretty good between broccoli, peppers, onions, garlic, etc.

We're not really talking about sugar here, it's corn syrup and there is a big difference. Sugar makes you feel full, corn syrup does not...

...had this talk about sugar and processed foods with my doctor couple weeks ago. She also talked about the addictive nature of sugar which I already knew...

Back in the early eighties the wife and myself...then gf...were getting free cocaine for about 2-3 years. We both quit the blow without too much trouble. We are both early 60's now and have not been able quit the sugar in all its forms yet..

48 hours ago I started a non refined sugar "fast" after seeing a video on youtube that suggested refined sugar triggers the brain in like ways as cocaine and heroin.

I love refined sugar. Loved candy since I was very little. I could and have ate candy for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. I have found myself lately eating candy instead of breakfast. At Halloween, right across from my workplace someone put out a HUGE bowl of candy. The bowl had all my favorite candies. When at the office, I found myself going to that candy bowl more than a few times per hour. I also have been struggling with fatigue.

Last Thursday night was the last time I ate refined sugar products. The same night I watched the video. The person in the video said it can easily be a three day withdrawal. The person further stated refined sugar messes with ones brain. On Friday, I had a major headache. Felt better yesterday.

How crazy is that- refined sugar reportedly screws with the brain in similar ways heroin and cocaine does.

You be better off reducing it over a few days than going cold turkey...

Spring 2019, I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes with an A1C of 7.2 and fasting glucose of 108. At the time, I was 285 lbs (5'8") and drinking 5-6 can cokes a day. For years, I dealt with my depression by seeking that instant gratification from drinks and sweets.

That blookwork was a wake up call. I immediately cut out all sugary drinks, kicked the sweets, and started actually paying attention to what I put in my body. Same as you, I had a bad headache for a couple of days and then was over it. I lost close to 20 lbs in those first couple months afterward.

I'm now 210 lbs and slowly but surely still losing weight. Without medication, just diet controlled, I've gotten my A1C steady at 5.0-5.5 for the past 2 years. That's still eating 30-40% carbs, just making healthier choices with no refined or added sugars, whole wheat and grain when possible, and plenty of fiber.

A lot of opiate addicts will crave sugar when they are in withdrawals. As a recovering alcoholic, I've had similar cravings after I stopped drinking.

The noodles and rice are my favorite lol. But I do like the meat and vegetables too and eat plenty of it when I have it.

I hate to tell you, but there is a lot of salt and sugar in the sauces and on the Chinese seasoned vegetables.

The more you open your eyes to it, the more you find refined sugar EVERYWHERE! Its the reason obesity and diabetes are on a gigantic rise.

If you can just try it for 2 weeks, cut out the soft drinks, candy bars, and breads, you will lose the addiction. The first few days will be hard though. Dont gulp milk as a replacement, its sweet too.

Next time you are in the grocery, look at what is in the cart of the morbidly obese. It's breads, chips, sweet cereals and soft drinks. Many of them started out in their teens and not obese, but in time insulin resistance nets you obesity.

It will definitely be hard. I take candy bars to work for snacks and beef jerky and combos too. And a can of soda. I just placed a large Chinese food order not all for me feeding the parents tonight too. And stopping to on the way home to get sodas at the gas station my problem is I don’t want to skip them because we get them free so it doesn’t cost me anything. Now cereal I rarely ever eat but when I do it’s the most unhealthy kind you can get like Crunch Berries or Cinnamon Toast Crunch or something like that. I do like Honey Bunches of Oats too. I know I have went a few days in my life without soda trying to get away and had too many withdrawal feelings so I had to get one. Plus is so tempting when I see my family members drinking soda and me doing without. I have to stop my bad habits I think I’ll be alright for right now if I quit or mainly quit.

It's costing you your health in the long run. I will show up in a few years. How many people have you heard say, " i've always been slim but after getting married," or "Once i hit my thirtys" etc. It was not married, or age as much as the habits before that.

Hey live life the way you want to, just make sure you understand the choices you make. A lot of young people have no idea of what all the sugar and inactivity do to them till later in life.

I cut all refined sugar a good while back. I used to eat a lot of sweets, and I started having bad elbow pain when I'd lift weights. I'd read that refined sugar caused inflammation, and so I dropped like a bad habit, cold turkey. No withdrawals or anything, and most of all, every bit of my elbow pain was 200% gone. Sugar is basically poison to your body.

Yes I know I need to break the habit. And I’m going to hopefully do it before it’s too late. I’m a typical teenage boy eats junk and doesn’t think. Honestly before finding this forum I never thought anything about it.

Chinese won't hurt you at all. It's the cake, pies, sodas, sweets, etc that will harm you.
