I have twin 440s in my boat. One of the engines is symptomatic of blow by (leaky gaskets, breather cap and PCV a little oily). I have tried many things in hopes of freeing up the suspecteed 'stuck ring' but nothing works. Compression is 145 for 7 cylinders and 125 for one. I am currently running Mobil 1 15w50 at the suggestion of a friend but it's not working. Should I go to straight 30wt? I am looking to stop the leaks if possible.
Plugs are clean, heads done 2 years ago. Oil residue around base of Carter AFB. Thanks

You can just donate the boat to me. I'll figure out which oil works best and give it back, at the end of summer

Try running some Kreen in the oil, if there are stuck rings it there is a good chance it can free them fairly quickly.
Check out the oil additive section for more information on this product.

I once used Redline oil to try to boost the compression in the dying cylinder of my old Saturn. The result that that compression went up on all the cylinders.... Except for the dying one.

In other words I have only given you an idea not to try.

I plunged myself into reading about the oil additives, etc. I just ordered some 'Kreen' in hopes I will see some positive results. I will change oil to Rotella with Baldwin filters. Will post results.

Thanks!
