I have an abundance of PYB straight 30 wts, so to utilize this, what about blending it off 1qt. at a time with 4 PYB 5w-30's?

I was going to use the visc calculator, but could not find the respective cst. numbers on the PZ website. So, what would everyone's opinion be with this strategy?

Why only 1 quart? In the heat of a south Texas summer you should be able to use all SAE30 as long as you don't short trip the car a lot.

I`ve always wondered about using a full sump of monograde. I used dino street legal VR1 20W50 a few years ago and it ran super smooth. How does the monograde 50 compare to the 20W50?

It will be thicker on "cold" starts, have better shearing stability, and I think less additive package rules are applied to mono grades for meeting SN, which could mean a more stout oil.

I would use your stash all at once so you can use your multi-grade in the winter. It likely is closer to a 15W-30 than a straight 30 grade so although not ideal in a typical 90F startup it will not end the world.

The 5W only kicks in when the oil is below 32 degrees. That means that the 5W-30 is always just a 30 weight above 32 degrees. Just use 5 quarts of the 30 weight and you will be fine.

While blending does not scare me at all, I question if it is optimal. My thinking was that just one 30wt. along with four 5w-30's would not significantly change the properties of the 5w-30's. Anyone know what the resulting visc would be? Maybe like a 10-30? I am really curious about this.

I agree in the south TX climate this is probably the best place to do this, if necessary. Also I believe since they are all PYB it would blend real well. I appreciate all your comments.

I agree with you, if you have the patience for it blending it would be the most optimal way to get rid of it, but I also agree a straight run during a TX summer would not be an issue either.
