I asked about the difference between the Extended Care and their HM options as they're virtually identical from the PDS. Below is what I got as a response. So it seems like they're not exactly the same as what's already available, but extremely close.

I noticed that the PDS for Extended Care and Platinum High Mileage are exactly the same with the exception of certain certifications, i.e. MS-13340. Are these two oils the same formulations, or are there differences between the two?

Pennzoil's Answer said:
Pennzoil Extended Care and Pennzoil Platinum High Mileage are both full synthetic products made from natural gas and high performance additives (pureplus technology) -- providing outstanding wear protection, better oxidation stability (tough even under extreme conditions) and clean the engine better (prevents sludge formation and corrosion). They both meet the latest gasoline engine oil industry standards, however there are some OEM specifications that only one or the other was formulated for (refer to TDS). The Pennzoil Platinum High Mileage is generally recommended for older vehicles with more than 75,000 miles because of the additional seal conditioners that helps prevent/lessen leaks from older seals or gaskets. Seal conditioners are included in the additive package for both products. The Pennzoil Platinum High Mileage will have more of these seal conditioners than PEC making Pennzoil Platinum High Mileage the top choice for vehicles with over 75,000 mileage.

I think all these specialty oils came out at just the wrong time. With a sharp decline in demand combined with Covid complicating everyone's lives, it goes against people's desires to simplify and survive. That's all just a guess, but really, who needs to spend time researching motor oil. That's all just my best guess.

The good news is that it has been a bonanza for me. I've bought quite a stash of Rotella Gas Truck and Mobil 1 Annual Protection that all came at clearance prices! I'll be picking up 2 more jugs of Mobil 1 and collecting the rebates!

You’re triggering the thickies here on the mere mention that Pennzoil has a 3 grade oil.

I can hear the wailing and gnashing of teeth now.

I suspect it's a typo. It doesn't make much sense because I'm trying to figure out what it was supposed to be. I don't think it was supposed to be 5w30.

It's Extended Care 0W-20 and says the wear claims are based on a comparison of test results with 5W-3 (Footnote #3).
