This bike never sees the street and is rarely under 7000k rpms. A day usually consists of 7, 20 minute sessions. I'm either full throttle, full brake, or full lean ;). I replace my oil every 2 weekends (4 days). What are the pros/cons of 30W and 40W oil? I'm going to do some testing between motul 300V and amsoil but i want to know ur thoughts on weight first. Thanks!

Oil temps may be a big factor here in a choice, and HTHS may be more important that visc at lower temp. Every hp is a better lap time, yes? the 30 may be a couple more less drag than 40, it also may not. If you change this often try both and get that data and then pick. Just guessing.

I race a Yamaha 700 Raptor, not the same engine, but it's lifestyle is much like your bike. I called Red Line and had a short discussion about oil and my race enngine. They recommended Racing 40wt. The esters would be extra benefit in an enngine that gets used hard IMO. And agree with jldcol, it's the HTHS you're looking for and usually it takes a heavier oil to meet the standard for racing.

if changing out so frequently, i would run either Rotella 15W40 or rotella syn (ok not truly a syn) 5W40

The shop I used to do work for prepped race 600's and Ducati's. We used 30w Redline race in the 600's. Mainly because they had often seen a little power with it, and it didn't sump (oil doesn't drain back fast enough) like the thicker grades did. It also didn't look aerated with foam when draining hot after a hard pull, some of the other oils did. The Duc's got 40w. Not a plug for redline, lots of good oils out there, just what I saw.

alright let the battle commence. i've picked up a gallon of 300v 5W-40 and a gallon of the amsoil 40W is on it's way...

i'll post the results of the UOAs in a few months

ELF sport4 campione 10w60 100% PAO (around $8/litre)
great for racing and can withstand grueling track days.
Don't worry about the 60wt try it you won't regret.
Anyways if i were to choose between MOTUL and AMSOIL
it'll MOTUL 300V 10W40 all the way
also SIKOLENE PRO 4 PLUS 4T 5W40 $$$!!!(over $20/litre)
might be another great choice.

I second the Redline 30WT race oil. My CBR1000RR see 80% street and 20% track and I used to run Castro Superbike R4. I am switching to Silkolene Scoot 4 Sport 5W40 for this summer.

Castrol R4 5W40 thins out to a 30WT after about 2 hours on the track. The Silkoline Pro 4 Plus 5w40 and the Scoot 4 Sport 5w40 are basically the same thing. The factory rep told me the Scoot Sport has more detergent and is better for more street riding. The Pro 4 Plus does not thin out as much as the Castrol.
