I have been using 303 Fabric Guard on the convertible top. The products repels water very well and last pretty long. However, the side window and the rear window show a filmy residue after a rain. The windshield is not really affected. The film is spotty and can be removed only with glass cleaner and with a lot of friction with a microfiber cloth. It appears that when the top gets wet, the runoff carries with it some components that foul the windows. Not sure if it's some kind of resin or silicone.

Do all water repellents for convertible tops cause similar residue?

its well known(at least to me) that if you use the 303 protectant on the interior it will evaporate and make a film on all the inside windows..
Its why I would never wash the inside windows until a day or 2 after washing the car.

Not sure why as it is one of the few drawbacks to that product. IIRC the fabric guard looks remarkably the same as the 303 Aerospace Protectant.

So not surprising I guess.

I have never used either product inside the vehicle and I don't think the Protectant and the Fabric Guard are the same product.

I found the ingredients in Fabric Guard. No silicone. A polymer must be causing the staining on the glass. The product works really well on the cloth top, though. Stained windows that can be cleaned beat a leaky top.
