3 filters cut; Frams and RP

Got an exhaust cutter from HF and had to try it out. These are a HM3980, PH3614, and an RP 10-2876. The HM3980 is from my van that has a 4.3 V6, the PH3614 is from my '91 4Runner, and the RP 10-2876 is from my wife's 2010 Sentra.

The RP is definitely heavier, not that it mattered.



ADBV's and so on:

I dropped the one for the PH3614, but it looked like any other nitrile ADBV. You can also see the glop cartridge for the HM3980.

RP was run for about 7000 miles. HM3980 was run for about 4000 miles. I'm not sure about the PH3614, but I'm guessing about 4000 miles.

As you can see, they all look good. I tried to show the worst pleat spacing on the Frams. The RP, of course, was very uniform. The RP filter element is tiny, but I have no doubt, adequate. The filters for the Sentra are all kind of miniature.

Maybe you can find an oversize oil filter for the Sentra. All 3 look good.

I need to buy an oil filter cutter from HF.

First: Nice job on the cutting apart of these filters!

Second: Nice clear pictures! I cannot stress enough,you want to show these types of "tear downs" of filters,at least take clear pictures,or there is no point in posting them up.

The leaf spring is steel. You probably mean the nylon bypass valve.

We understand that, it is just unmistakeably "Fram" components so it looks like the RP filter may be Fram made.

All not too bad, i really like the PH3980 size. I run the XG 3980 on my 3.1. Can't wait to run it 15k and cut it open.

As many of you figured out, the RP filter is manufactured to RP specifications by FRAM Filtration. Best to compare FRAM Ultra to the RP filter (apples to apples). the Ultra does not have the fancy paint job or purple ADBV but it does have two layers of synthetic media and a lower cost than RP. Both really top end quality filters for use with top shelf oil (like RP oil) and extended drain intervals

I agree the FRAM ultra is a filter that is hard to beat for the $ and ease to find and its great filter.

Also in the pic, I looked over it again and the fiber end disc seemed to hold..... also the HIGH MILAGE filter looks to have the most filter media.

Also is there any data that shows the FRAM HIGH MILEAGE actually helps HIGH MILEAGE cars?
