My 2002 Cavalier was on a one-year p/t warranty when I first got it, and I HAD to change the oil every 3750k miles (6,000 km's). Used whatever 5w30 conventional that happened to be available where I went. I tend to change depending on the weather and driving conditions; so during last summer I stretched changes out to about 8-9,000 km's as I was doing a lot of highway driving. Still, that was less than 2 months! Now my wife and I are doing mostly short trip city driving, so I am planning on changing again early in January when the weather starts getting much colder, and that will be about 6,500 km's/2.5 months into this change. Will probably use Pennzoil 5w30 or Petro Canada Supreme 5w30, as they both have good cold-weather properties....

Whatever name brand 5w30 is on sale and I change the filter every 12,000 miles. (PureOne)
Regular Pennzoil. One retired vehicle had 266,000 and another has 188,000 and yet another has 130,000. The motor was still good in the first vehicle, the body rusted away.
5K OCI's with what's listed below for at least the next year and a half.
every 2000 miles or 3 months with wal-mart tech 2000 10-30 or5-30 in winter and luberfiner filter.
I used to work with a retired oil guy who changed only his filter and added one quart of oil every 1000 miles. . . He drove a 64 Pontiac Grand Prix that he cherished. The car had about 150K on the clock when he decided he wanted to rebuild it. It ran fine, no smoking, good compression, didn't use oil, he had just completed upgrading the brakes and suspension the year before. I think he just wanted to tear it down to look inside. . .
Anyway I was about 25 years old at the time and offered my help for what it was worth. . . The engine was pretty clean on the outside, no leaks and he kept it looking new. Once out and dissambled everyone would have called him a liar had they not known first hand how many miles were on that motor. The engine was absolutly pristine inside, no ridge in the cylinders, no sludge nothing. . . The only complaint he had was one sticky lifter that would show itself on cold mornings and ever so often otherwise. . .
I know you hear stories about million mile engines etc. . . I'm certainly not advocating this method of changing your oil. By the same token I owned a slant 6 Dodge pickup that was my work truck that had mechanical lifters that needed adjusting from time to time. That slant 6 got its oil and filter changed every time I did the car. Sometimes it had 2000 miles and sometimes it had less than 1000. What it did have was tons of sludge that you had to dig out with a putty knife. I used Penszoil 10W30 in those years. My car was clean as a tack but that truck was full of sludge. . .go figure. . .

4-5000 every 6 months per Toyota
For 3K /3 month intervals probably any 5w30 would be fine. Even a car with lots of short trips would probably be fine at 5000 mile/6 month intervals on a good dino. Try a used oil analysis sometime after 3000 miles and see how it looks, you will be surprised how much life is left in your oil.

Uh yeah, worldwide oil shortages will occur because of people doing short-term OCI's.
Hate to break it to you, but escalating demand for petroleum resources in Asia (WalChina) and projected SEP instability in the Middle East is what really impacts the price-supply relationship.
But hey, rest assured that for every 3K OCI you read about here, there are many, many people doing mystery OCI's. 5K? 10K? 20K? Twice a year? Once a year? Once every couple of years? Think of them as conservationists...albeit, one's who change vehicles frequently.
Chevron or Formula Shell 5W30 SM/GF-4. Why? $0.59/qt at Kragen's.
Actually, I've been running 7-10k OCIs with the stuff and very short trips but my engine is CLEAN. Perhaps 1 qt/2000 mi consumption helps.

My Porsche sees about 5,000 - 6,000 miles a year. It now gets an oil and filter change annually using 0w40 Esso XD-3 Synthetic and Mahle filter.
My winter beater Mazda MX-3 gets a roughly 3,000 mile change generally to whatever 5w30 conventional and Filter is on sale. I just changed it from Walmart Tech2000 on a Candian Tire House brand filter (not sure whether it is a Champion or Fram) to Castrol GTX and a Fram WearGuard. I have a 5 quart jug of Quaker State 5w20 and a Quaker State Filter (Purolator?) ready to go in next time. Because they were on sale.

It cracks me up alot of folks blaming 3-5k oil changers for oil shortages.
Yeah, as they drive large outfits that get poor mpg and drive them like there is no worries...
They use more oil than most people.. But they change their engine oil every 10k so they are pure.

Yep. My cars get about 30-35 miles to the gallon on the HWY. Driving the 40 miles to and from work each day consumes more petroleum product than an oil change. Somehow my 3 times a year oil change is going to deplete world oil stocks ?
I offered up my "barely broken in" M1 numerous times and nobody took em up on it.
Since then, I've gone to 4k OCIs.
I will then have some M1 and GC with only 4k - takers?

As for using more oil, all mine goes into recycling barrels - unlike the jokers that dump it in the dirt/drains...

If you are not too far from Irvine(UCI), I will come over to your place and take all less than 5k miles Syn oils.
