3,000 Mile Oil Changes...What Does Everyone Use???

I will ask my mechanic if he can put the oils back into the jugs.
I've been using him as I have not had the time and/or desire to do my own lately...
I'm in Pasadena.

And in the end of 200k miles the engine will be in the same condition as if you ran conventional oils.

My decrepit old '87 Astro work van I change at 3k with Max Life. I do not put a lot of miles on it so that works out to about twice a year. Has 140k on it.
My decrepit new(er) Neon, I just drained out it's first 3k OCI with Havoline and will send a sample to Blackstone. I just got the car 6 months ago and did an Auto-RX treatment first, it has 130,000 miles on it. I plan to stay at 3k. I just got it for a work beater to run between my offices using a lot less gas than my truck.
My '05 truck and the wife's '03 Taurus I run synthetic at a 5k OCI.

I used to be a 3k/3mo. OCI Mobil 1 oil/filter guy when we first got the PT...

Then, at about 30k miles, I found you guys. Now I have a mini-stash of on-sale oils and a box of Napa Gold filters sitting around! I still won't push conventional oil out to 5k, but I am doing synthetic 5k/6mo. OCI for now. An upcoming UOA might change my mind...might...

For cars/vans and others under the factory warranty. Follow the manufacturers guidelines. There will be more and more refusal to pay for warranty work if you do a 12K synthetic oil change should the engine blow. They will want the proof that you did the shceduled mantance under their guidelines not ours. Oil analysis might help with extended oil changes and engine failure but be ready to bring this information to small claims court.

I've always been a 3K guy, old school I guess. I used to be strict 3 month, as I never went past 3K in 3 months but I'm getting away from that. I always buy used cars, and enjoy seeing them get cleaner and cleaner as the years go by. And, I also just really enjoy doing it. I enjoy getting under the car and getting dirty. But as I get busier and my kids get older (but still at home) I can see that I may need to extend things out a bit.... not that I want to but I need to.

I use MotorCraft 5W-20 on the Mustang, generally Havoline on the others, although I'm thinking of switching to something better volatility with the Mazda. I think the head gets hotter than most, and that is causing the oil to vaporize and burn off, and causes detonation. (That's the theory anyway.) Right now the issue is mitigated with temps that average 20F....
