3.0 Volvo

Just got a 1999 boat with a Volvo Penta 3.0 and would like to use synthetic oil in it. I believe that the recommended oil is probably 25w40. I was wondering if Mobil 1 10w40 would be acceptable. I have heard of others using Mobil 1 10w30 in other marine engines where 25w40 is called for. The engine has about 150 hours on it.

For 2002 and newer engines Volvo calls for Volvo brand synthetic straight 30 weight (Amsoil bottle shape!). Yours should have a long life on a diet of 10W40 synthetic. Keep a close eye on consumption initially.
