I likely need to do an intake manifold on a 2005 Explorer 4.6

What's the latest on these? I believe OEM is simply no longer available unless you get REALLY lucky and stumble into one?

So basically, it's aftermarket or nothing? RA has numerous listings and I think they all come from whatever Wuhan Institute builds the Dormans. If I do this I honestly think I'd do the least expensive which is SKP and looks identical to Dorman (as do all the others).

Is there a third option, like "better" aftermarket with nutserts instead of plasti-screws? @bdcardinal

Find OEM if you still can. Dorman / no name will work but I can't stand the self tapping screws into plastic for the coils. I was lucky enough that mine failed when OEM was available.

The OE one is disco duck. I think the only issue on the FRPP or FP or whatever it is called now one is the alternator bracket. That was the big difference back when there were multiple "fix" 2V manifolds.

On my 5.4 2v I got an oem off Ebay from a Ford dealership out of Vegas. Dorman is fine but it does not have the brass threads I have been told. Think I paid about $350 w shipping in 2021 for it. Maybe worth a shot looking there.

Ford had JUST re-released a new intake manifold for the 4.6 panthers / rustangs with PI heads. I wonder if that would work on your Exploder. It's not quite as good powerwise as the old Ford OEM ones, but it doesn't lose as much peak power as the Dorman PI Intake.

With that said, I've been running a Dorman intake on my 2v 5.4 for 7 years and it's been holding up Okay. I believe the PI Dorman 5.4 intakes actually have the PI Runners and don't restrict like they do for the 4.6.
