286k on Pep Boys Proline oil.

This is the 4.3L Chevy in one of our shop trucks. My boss bought it new in 1995. It's lived on Proline oil and filters since then.

It came with green antifreeze when new.

The intake gaskets have been seaping and now the spider died so I tore into it to fix both problems. This was the 1st time we have had to tear into the engine for anything.

Internally the engine is spotless, no sludge. Everything has a dark brown stain but thats all.

Oil changed every 3-4k and it uses 1 qt in 3000 miles.

yep, the 4.3 is a long-lived, reliable engine. Other than lower combustion efficiency and power density compared to more modern designs, Id take one any day for a reliable, long-lived design.

Those Proline filters look like a Purolator Classic cut in half, almost a mini Purolator. Just goes to show, no matter what filter you use or brand of oil, I think regular oil changes are the best way to avoid sludge.

The 262 ci. (4.3) V6 is the good ole 350 Chevy with two cylinders cut off. Getting 200k miles out of that engine family could probably be done with Crisco veggie oil in the crankcase. Nice engine!

This truck is kind of odd. Built 4-95 but with 96 OBD2 emissioms on it. Every time it goes in to be smogged they fail it because it does not have what it should emission part wise.

The smog referee knows it now and knows that it's a weird one and that it's never been modified.

Funny how the intake gaskets almost made 300K with green coolant instead of Dexcool

I was suprized to see roller lifters in it. No more worries about ZDDP in the oil that goes in it.
