2027 GM Fullsize - Finally E-Coated

Well, just after I buy a 2026, they move to E-Coating in 2027. I just don't know what it would be like to work under a truck without getting all smudged up. Seems like it would make you soft after a while. All jokes aside, hopefully this helps with the frame rust some people experience. Do current F150 frames fare better?

It sounds like it should hold up better. I'd probably apply my favorite rustproofing compound over it if it were mine and I planned on keeping it a long time.

The GMT360 platform was e-coated as are all the midsize trucks. They changed the wax at some point as the GMT800s never really seemed that bad to work on (harder wax) our 16s, 18, 22 and 26s may as well just have fluid film on it as I can nearly change race just from an oil change.

That being said we have GM trucks in service up from the 90s to present and the frames were never an issue. All coatings to present seem effective enough.

I don't believe any manufacturer can justify the amount of undercoating needed to survive winters here. Additional coating should be applied if you want to keep a daily driver solid.

My 2004 GMT800 has been through 21 northern Illinois winters, and the frame is just now starting to show surface rust.

Considering the way that the corrupt Illinois Department of Transportation applies salt to our roads, I do not see how a painted frame would have fared any better, than the "wax" coating.

3 Adirondack winters on my '23 and the wax is coming off frame holes and bracket edges. The touch ups are ongoing.
We'll see how the new coating stands up in NYS where they treat the roads with salt and sand.

The wax coating wasn’t bad, what was bad is that GM put that wax coating on a bare metal frame. Had the frame been painted and the coated with wax, it would not be an issue.

I don't think the HDs are getting refreshed this year, so I'd say no.

F150 frames fare much better up here in upper michigan. After 1 winter up here a GM frame is 80% surface rust id estimate. Ford and Ram are 99.5% paint after 1 winter and probably 95% paint after 10 winters. Ive heard of 5 people needing frame patches on 2014 and 15 silverados up here, not 1 ford or ram from that era yet.
