I finally did it.. my 06 saturn relay with 60k on it now has 7 quarts of Redline D6 in it AND a new ATP filter and Gasket.
I kept the OE 4T65-e gasket, I hestitate to reuse gaskets, although this one definetely could be reused.

The job was a couple hours.. lotsa cleaning.. the magnet was gunked with stuff. I wish I had taken pictures..
But I saw metallic particles in the pan, they looked goldish color. they didn't stick to the magnet.
I'm hoping it was particles from the pan coating? Please say the pan was coated! haha!

AND.. I didn't use lubegard red either.. I figured the Redline itself should more than compensate.. and that D6.. stuff seemed thinner than water. It really scared me as I poured it in.. I suppose I'm not used to the super thin lubricants yet.
Transmission shifts a bit better, but nothing really significant to notice.
There's still what.. 7 quarts of factory fill roaming in with the redline. I'm thinking maybe a few thousand miles drop the pan, or rather just suck out what I can and fill back with more redline D6 and call it all good for another 60k??

I've been trying to eyeball where/how I could install an external transmission cooler.. this van will never tow anything, but I intend to keep it till the wheels fall off.
I could probably sneak a cooler in the front, no problem.. but the lines.. everything is pretty much solid line out the transmission and it's loop do loop.
there's probably 5" of rubber line with a crimp fitting going to the radiator. accessing those lines at the radiator will take a lot of time, more than I usually have.
I'm hesitant to cut those rubber hoses and putting a loop of my own in.. parts for this (like the Chevy Uplander) aren't 100% readily available. And.. so far.. no leaks.

Also upgraded to 5w30 Redline oil. Honestly.. I haven't seen or heard any difference vs. the Synpower 5w30.
I'm going for at least a 15k OCI and I know the redline can easily handle that.. with oil filter changes in between.

I cut the lines on my Buick, and spliced in rubber lines.

If your old gasket was metal-reinforced like the GM gasket on my Buick's 4T65, it's far better than the aftermarket gasket. Watch our for leaks over the next 10-20k miles.

I used an aftermarket cheap rubber gasket for the first pan drop on the Montana van. I didn't know that the original GM gasket was metal reinforced and reusable. Like sciphi said, watch for leaks - the gasket was cracked and weeping before the next ATF change (I do 30,000 mile intervals on the Montana). I replaced the cheap gasket with an expensive, reusable, metal reinforced gasket made by Fel-Pro - no problems with that one.

There are brass thrust washers inside that can get worn or chewed up.
Call or email Dave at Triple Edge Performance and get his opinion/advice, the man is the guru for these units.
