what oil weight should i use in my 2011 2500 dodge with the 5.7 hemi.it does not have the mds.book says 5w30 but oil cap says 5w20

either one is great, there may be a very small fuel economy advantage to the 20w.

The new gen hemi runs great on almost any oil, even with MDS.

we dont have very cold winters here usually.i had a 2500 chevy in the past and always used 10w30 year round, was thinking about using synthetic in this one.i have used 10w30 in all my vehicles with a quart of lucas and never had a problem related to oil.but i was not sure about lucas in this new of a truck

In a heavy duty truck. i agree, for my own piece of mind i would run the 5w30 syn

Why would you use Lucas in an almost new truck? 10w30 will not hurt anything, but why not use 5w30? It is what the manufacturer recommends, whether you live in Ohio or Miami.

M1 0-20 would be an excellant choice for your engine. Never mind the oil switching from summer to winter. Use one oil year round.

Lucas oil treatment9 has been discussed many times on this site. Its junk. Good quality oil does not need thickening or its formula ticked with. Don't pour any brew changing anything in the oil! Lucas gas treatment is OK. Oh I use the 10w30 being a non MDS motor and a 2500.

No no no Lucas. There is no need to further thicken the oil in your new vehicle. Actually, don't use it in any vehicle. If you want thicker oil, use thicker oil. Adding Lucas dilutes the actually useful addatives in the oil.

5w-30 year-round.

Goes by the GVWR of the truck. Over 14,000lbs GVWR use 5W30. Under use 5W20. Either weight can be used however without any mechannical issues. Use whichever one you are most comfortable with.

I now agree, don't change weight winter/summer. The op lives in arkansas. 10w30 year round sounds good

I've got an 05 hemi. It's got 260k on the odo running a 5w-20. The last run I used M1 AFE 0w-20. Truck ran great,no complaints.
What I'm trying to get at is between a 20 and 30 grade it's a personal choice, since these engines are proving to go many reliable miles on 20 grades.

^This.

Only the 5.7 with MDS requires Xw20.
