I wanted to get a head start on a tool that will release the rear calipers on the wife’s 24 Altima SL with electronic parking brake. Does anyone have any testimony or advice for a scan tool that’ll work, as cheap as possible? I’ve looked at so many that I’ve confused myself. I’ve got a scanguage 2 that works for cvt service and odds and ends, so I just need a tool to release the calipers and nothing more. If such a thing even exists.

A bidirectional scanner like this should be able to do what you're asking while being reasonably cost effective.

Keep looking on YouTube for a DIY secret for these eP-brakes as far as disengagement while doing rear brakes. Some are easier than others but most can be done without a special & expensive scanner.
Often, it’s how many times you have to press the P-brake button, or do a couple of things simultaneously or disconnect the rear P- brake clip at each wheel prior to doing any service.

I have actually come to appreciate rear drum brakes.

Well I shared here my saga with scanners for Nissan EPB, TLDR is there is nothing for Canadians as yet, but Foxwell is going to have something soon, but you're in USA so you don't have any wait.
The 'redneck' method is to disconnect the EPB connector at the caliper and then supply 12V power to the metal contacts inside. If the parking brake tightens, then switch the polarity of your 12V source and it will then release. It's just a 2 wire 12V motor so making it go clockwise or counterclockwise is just switching the + and - wires.

Unrelated, but KL Cherokees let you put the rear brakes in service mode from the touch screen. What a concept!! (I'm no fan of recent Jeep products but credit where credit is due)
