I have a base model truck with no extras - not even power windows or remote start. My nineteen year old truck just keeps going and will not quit. I have had a few minor issues but nothing major. Couple of wheel bearings, the ignition module and the plastic clutch master cylinder mount breaking.

I have no desire for a sunroof. I work often enough outdoors in the hot sun and in sub freezing temperatures. Also ride my motorcycle and I get all the exposure to the great outdoors that I could possibly want. I have no desire for a sunroof.

There are lots of complaints about the high cost of car repair and part of the blame falls on the consumer for wanting all these extras. Manufacturers would not be supplying them if there was no demand for them.

A usual sunroof was not good enough, the Camry owner had to have a panaromic one. I have zero sympathy for him.

I recently saw an ad for the Toyota Sienna and was shocked at the Cdn $90,000+ price.

Toyota should be ashamed of that nonsense, and the dealership should be ashamed of the $600 "fix!"

As for sunroofs?
A sunroof has to be maintained, just like anything else. You have to clean it, lube it up, and clean out the drains. Most people don't think about this.

The panoramic in our Mazda is big, but the part that actually moves is no bigger than a normal-sized unit. The Chrysler's sunroof is a normal-sized unit, but it works flawlessly 11 years later. Again, maintenance! If you want something like a sunroof, you have to be willing to maintain it.

With that said, some units are more prone to failure than others. FORD should be ashamed of the panoramic units in the Edge and Explorer. Large, heavy glass panels are being lifted and pulled back and forth with plastic components made out of hardened Play-Doh!

Our 2019 Rav has a sunroof (not pano). There was literally no way to get factory softex seating without it - and we have dogs. So in most cases I think the OEM's are forcing you into it.

I would have paid more for them to keep it. So in many cases its not sought after, they just end up with it.

Manufacturers create packages of options. If you want a particular option, you have to accept the other options that come in that option package. I agree that unwanted options are, in a way, being forced on buyers.

I recall looking at 2023 Camrys. In the U.S., The panoramic sunroof was in the package that also had the parking assist sensors in the bumpers. If you wanted a car that had the sensors, you also got a panoramic sunroof.

Yeah I bet they are a great thing to have with some of the large hail storms in some areas. Kinda like stupid sky lights in houses.
Rule number 1 if you put a hole in a roof expect a leak at some point in time.

Some folks on site say EVs are terrible because of expensive replacement, the thing is the $9$-15k for EV battery is rookie numbers compared to a ICE/Hybrid everyday Camry at $21k.

Upside is they can close/disable it and owner can drive on or trade in and next dealer would likely never check it.

Nah , well designed sunroofs in fact allow slight leakage into essentially a moat. You just have to ensure drain lines remain clear to drain this.

I have two 14 year old cars (Acura) with moonroofs, no issues.

The crazy sunroofs were those aftermarket ones with no drain lines or poorly installed and leaked into vehicle.

I have 2 cars with "moon" roofs both leak. A relative has sky lights they all leak. And all it would take is the right size hail stone and all the skylights would be wide open for anything falling from the sky. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

This is ridiculous. My wife's RAM had the entire roof replaced, panoramic sunroof and all, due to a tree landing on it during the ice storm and getting that done, a new hood, windshield, fender, door skin and bed side was half that price.

Apparently 40% of Americans are living paycheck - to - paycheck. The numbers are probably torqued to suit the particular channel's bias.
God forbid that the paycheck - to - paycheck living American (or Canadian) buy a car without a sunroof or entertainment screen.
