Without the Dana axles - it’s not doing serious crawling articulation like Javed shows in his picture - but would certainly do allot of other things well …

They are not alone on 4WD’s with red tow hooks - as someone who has done dozens of recoveries - happy to see them vs a FWD unibody …

I'm surprised that they didn't go ev with small range extender for it. This would allow for mostly ev driving but still a gas range extender to get you in the remote back woods trails.

Have you seen how many comments on how expensive new cars are and I'm keeping my 2008 Willys 2 door 4evah.
An extra 10k cost won't fly.

Series hybrids just don't work well for the way most people use cars.

There's research out there that people don't plug in their PHEV's making them actually worse in the long run over a regular hybrid. So if you combine that with a range extender you're even worse off.

I see another Stellantis EV and this review of the EV charger and incident with a Jeep SUV immediately come to mind. A little surprisingly considering the rumors that manufacturers send out stuff that’s been gone through thoroughly for press vehicles to avoid embarrassment.

Yet another Jeep that will collect dust on the lots for a few years. Stellantis' product development and marketing departments have no idea what most people actually want.

It's sad what's become of these iconic vehicles. When I was selling in the early 1990s, you could buy a soft-top 4-cylinder Wrangler (they were all 4WD back then) for a bit over $10-$11K with discount and rebates. A few bucks extra would net you a 4.0L engine, and for a few more bucks you could get an automatic transmission. A solid XJ could be had in the teens.

Yes, there's the matter of inflation, but the heart of the matter is this: Buyers back then wanted a trusty utility vehicle sans all the fluff and frills. If Jeep could figure out how to sell a base Wrangler near $20K they'd sell every one they could produce.

Their thinking over the past several decades gave us the Liberty, Compass, and "Renegade." This is what happens when bean counters - and not car guys - run these companies.

I agree, they'd be a lot cheaper and sell a lot more if they put an engine it it. They should have gone the grocery getter route for an EV instead of that.

No one is developing new cheap cars. It doesn't matter what it's powered by. We only get new expensive models now.

No reason to do 0-60 in 3.6. Fun capability, but I’d rather range and slightly lower cost.

I’m waiting for the scout with the charger apu. I’ve always said this is the way for EV.

It makes me sick. How do people do it? Inflation is through the freakin' roof. It puts people in a hole and they hafta keep digging.

I think they look cool too as long as you are prepared to know since those doors are removable it most likely will not be a quiet interstate "cruiser"
All good but I am sure for those who don like wind noise coming from the doors it has the potential to be a non starter, maybe?

I would expect it to sound similar to a Wrangler JLU regarding wind noise etc, and have similar cinder block aerodynamics. Certainly not a luxury ride. I do like the look, hard pass as an EV for me.

Agreed, but I think they missed the mark big time with that. They could have tried a car, or small family SUV, and skipped off road, they have the market cornered with the Wrangler for that. A car or small SUV could have come in considerably cheaper and had better odds of selling. Time will tell, but if I were a gambling man, I'm thinking this one is a loser. OTOH I could end up being wrong.
