5000k minimum. I plan to adjust this based on UOA results.Can’t really advise if you don’t give your planned OCI length. If you’re going 5k then Kirkland or any API rated oil would be up to the task

I'm running ultra platinum 5w30 in mine currently and no issues..I may swap to esp 0w30 when I run out of ultra platinum or I may not. Euro platinum is also good choice as well. Any of those three are fine and depends on price and availability for me at this. At 5k intervals, you're really trying to split hairsIt's not too hard. I'm not sure about this. Pennzoil Ultra Platinum is a great oil I think, especially in the 5W-30. However we see enough issues posted here even with strict 5k changes I think it does matter. Especially in these new turbos that are wringing every last bit of power out of a 4 cylinder engine. They are hard on oil. With a brand new car, probably a loan, increased insurance, etc etc. it's not even a rounding error to go up to Valvoline Restore and Protect 5W-30 or Mobil 1 ESP 0W-30 on the total cost of ownership and ensure you won't have oil-related issues. You won't know you have a problem until 75-100k+. You don't want to be one of the ones who finds out the hard way that the new Toyota 4 cylinder turbos burn oil if you don't run a good one.At 5k intervals, you're really trying to split hairs

What on earth are you hoping to see and learn from sending the factory fill for a UOA?I intend to drop the factory fill and send off for analysis within the next week as some mileage has accumulated.
How do you think that a UOA with 5W-20 is going to help you decide on a 20 or 30 grade oil?I know there's a lot of debate over the 5W-20 VS 5W-30 in Toyota engines, so I want to see what the test results show

I can definitely understand the curiosity. I mostly see UOAs as useful for information on extending intervals, so unless it's just for kicks, I'm not sure what actionable information you're going to get from the factory fill.When I sampled the factory fill on my Corvette I was mostly concerned about the fuel dilution, given the fact that it is DI and I knew that the car would have been subjected to a lot of cold starts and short running time during the process of getting it through the assembly line (including the short dyno test to check the ABS and the water test for window leaks) Then it’s moved into the back parking area of the factory, then onto a truck then onto a train and then onto another truck and then finally arriving at the dealership. It did end up having 2% fuel in only 1100 miles. I also wanted a base line for all of the major wear metals, so that I could see them coming down on future intervals. But like most of us here I think it’s just curiosity driven
In my case this was also my first DI engine and knowing that fuel % right off the bat was important to me. I also wanted to validate my decision for dumping the FF at 1100 miles. Do you think that an early UOA will be reflective of fuel dilution after break-in? You're going to be doing some early, more frequent dumps (or most here will), so I'm not sure if it will be reflective of what your normal 5k OCI will show later on after (or later on in) break-in.
Out of grade in only 1400 miles. I would reiterate my advice above:Here's the results from the first oil sample at 1,370 miles. Please chime in with any comments that may be helpful. When I changed the oil, I put in Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5W-20.
The vehicle was driven in a mix of conditions, and the 4 Runner is a Hybrid with the start and stop feature.

I would use 5w-30 minimum! Oil geek just did a video on his Tacoma, same engine, he changed the oil at 500 miles, 1500 miles and again at 5000 miles. When he did oil analysis the 0w-20 had already sheared out of grade at just 3500 miles.Hi all,
Been lurking for a bit, I’ve just recently purchased a 26 4Runner and I’m trying to decide which oil to run. After hours of browsing threads here it seems Mobil 1 ESP is the way to go.
I’m in Charlotte, NC, so the truck will see hot summers, plenty of stop and go traffic, and not much cold weather as our winters are relatively mild. My plan is to run 0W-30 in summer and 0W-20 in winter. Thoughts on this approach?
