2026 4Runner - Oil Recommendations

Hi all,

Been lurking for a bit, I’ve just recently purchased a 26 4Runner and I’m trying to decide which oil to run. After hours of browsing threads here it seems Mobil 1 ESP is the way to go.

I’m in Charlotte, NC, so the truck will see hot summers, plenty of stop and go traffic, and not much cold weather as our winters are relatively mild. My plan is to run 0W-30 in summer and 0W-20 in winter. Thoughts on this approach?

Mobil 1 ESP 0W-30 is on my shelf for a summer in my Jeep. Yesterday the oil temp was 231°F in the sand whilst 77°F out.
Was about 217°F on the way home …

Never see any difference - same with oil pressure …

I’d run a API/ILSAC approved 0w-20 oil with Toyota genuine filter. I personally like Mobil 1 Extended Performance 0w20 because of the PAO content and it’s on the thicker end of the 20 grade viscosity range. I’d change it every 5-6k miles or 1 year. I’d also change the factory fill and filter around 1200-1500 miles.

Using an ESP blend or 0w-30 could technically bring warranty trouble down the road if it comes to that. While these are quality oils, they do not meet the owners manual specs.

Not needed but you could do it if you wish. It doesn't go to below -30f where you're at so the lower ccs and mrv of the 0w-20 won't give a meaningful starting benefit.

Can’t really advise if you don’t give your planned OCI length. If you’re going 5k then Kirkland or any API rated oil would be up to the task

I'd run the 0W30 all year.

AMSOIL Signature Series 0w-30 is a great route to go, break engine in with a regular synthetic (like Amsoil oem) first then go for the extended benefits of the ss.

i run ESP 0W-30 in my 2026 Camry SE, it's an awesome oil for your 4Runner

I noticed 5w30 was noisier in my 2.4T than the 0w20, and it cranked slower this winter. Now, we did have a really cold winter, but I'm going back to 0w20. With the right intervals I'm betting it will be just fine.

If it's the turbo engine I'd say change the oil often. No more than 5k max.
