2025 Chevy Tahoe 6.2L - metal in factory oil filter

5w-30 is a good move but I would have used mobil1 esp for a couple two thousand oci and started the HPL at 5k.
I will change the HPL based on UOA data and how much metal I find in consecutive filters. I see no need to run another oil.

Looks like machining/threading chips/debris, I would be very disappointed if I had built this engine.

The Vane/Rotor/Slide style oil pump can at least pass larger pieces without damage.....Gerotor & Gear pumps not so much.

GM is full of crap with these dates....They didn't want to issue a stop sale on 2025 models.

And if they aren't out & out lying with the dates....They were knowingly producing engines with poorly machined crankshafts for 2024 models! I know for a fact this defect affected 2019 & 2020 L87 pick-up trucks. (SUV's didn't get the L87 'till 2021).

First started cutting my filters open at approximately 30k on my 5.3, so I don't have a good data point on that first filter. Good news is they were caught first time through the oil filter. How long and what path they took though ... anyone's guess. I'm normally against extended warranties of any kind; however, I made an exception on our '22 Yukon XL and it paid for itself already at 40x k miles. Hit me up if you need a recommendation for where to purchase a legit GM backed maintenance agreement.

Edit: Here's my first one at 27k:

I'm thinking this is great reason to use Filtermag from as soon as you drive it off the lot. At least it will be there to catch any versions that will stick until first OCI when you can maybe install a magnetic plug also.
