2024 Toyota Tacoma SR5 4WD

Awesome man. I’ve been a Tacoma guy since 2002. I had a 2002 and a 15. The 15 got totaled out due to hail. Ran like a top at 137K. Settled for a 24 Tundra. It’s a beast. MPGS right at my 15 was. As of now my engine isn’t part of the recall. Fingers crossed but it had a 75K warranty.

I'm undecided if I want a Tundra when my lease is up, or keep this one/get another Tacoma. I can't fit a Tundra in my garage so that's why I didn't get one currently. I might have my polebarn garage up by then so that would be a non-issue.

Yes, if you get any of those codes it's a new transmission and torque converter no questions asked. Typically you'll lose gears 1-5 and only have gears 6-8 to limp home to get home and towed or limp to your dealer.
I go 22 miles (one way) in sand often - that would be an interesting day …

A Tacoma would have been my obvious choice when I bought my Tundra a few months ago. But I am 6'-5" and tip the scale at around 250 pounds and at 62 years of age I was tired of scrunching up into small vehicles.

The Tacoma or Maverick would have easily handled my hauling and towing needs but I can afford a bigger truck and I valued the additional personal space.

BTW, I'm averaging over 20mpg so far with my Tundra and my old 2nd gen V6 Taco only averaged 18mpg.

I'm 5'8" and 170lbs on a good day, so even a Camry is big on me. I got to jump up into the Tacoma :ROFLMAO:

My Tundra sits outside. Wife gets the garage. My Tundra wouldn’t fit anyway.

A little over 6,000 miles in and had a chance to drive it through some winter weather. Immediately knew the factory highway tires would not cut it. New tires installed yesterday. Bumped it up to 265's from 245's and it looks and drives much better!

Nothing other to report. Transmission is behaving itself, so that's good. With the morning temps in the teens recently mileage has gone down to 21-22. Still not that hateful.

And these are selling, people say they aren't.

Tempting to get an auto tragic and crew cab. I so love my MT, but only I can drive it now. And 6 foot bed (I really want my 6ft bed) now with grand kids and kids wanting to ride together, Access cab not such a good idea.

Stop posting about your Gen 4!!! :) :ROFLMAO: :p

@Pablo I think if you go with a 2025 it should be a safe bet transmission wise. I haven't seen a new failed transmission post in a while. The 8 speed auto is far better than the old 6 speed auto. It'll occasionally get stuck on stupid for a millisecond, but that may just be where I'm driving. The little turbo 4 has been great in the short amount of time I've had it.

I'm glad that you like your Taco. The information age that we live in seems to magnify the negatives. Happy miles.

Sooo first design flaw, pretty severe IMO. I do not offroad, or drive gravel roads. This is all from rock salt from the winter.

Taking it in on Monday to see what we can even do at this point. A couple people have gotten this damaged repaired (repainted) under warranty. I fully expect them to tell me to pound sand, but I will escalate it further (nicely, but firmly) to Toyota. I do not want to get dinged like this on a lease return. I'll explain I do plan on getting another Tacoma/Tundra (which is true). We'll see how much of a PITA this is going to be...

Like sandpaper etching off the paint. They laid it down thick here and with any vehicle in front of me sounded like rain hitting the Volvo. Let us know the outcome & surely they can put clear film protection in those areas.

It's definitely going to be interesting. Mainly going in so they can document it so I can contact Toyota further. This issue is definitely known in the 4th gens, but you don't see it as bad on the Sports/Offroads like my SR5. Must be a stance thing, I'm not really smart so I don't know :ROFLMAO:

Thanks for posting that.

I just brought home a 2025 Tacoma hybrid. I’ll put some clear film over that leading edge this weekend after seeing your photo.

Agree with all of your comments. I also adore the 4T. It has solid power, the truck can hustle if you want it to, the transmission seems very well sorted, and it makes all the power it needs down low without revving it out. Inside is quiet. Features work and are easy to reach.

Infotainment is a pain. It’s too big, too complex, throws up too many notices and messages. I’ve figured out how to turn a lot of things off.

I really like it. This is one I would like to hang on to for a long, long time.

You are eclipsing my MPG by spades. I’m at 21.5 and haven’t seen more than that yet. Will post a review soon.

Did that clear film save it at all or did it go through?

Congrats on the new truck!

With the cold weather I wish I was getting 21mpg. Been hovering 18-19 recently and a trip on the interstate I got 14... I do have bigger tires than a stock SR5 so that has some to do with it.

The infotainment system is pretty wonky some times. Seems to be a Toyota thing though as our Camry is very similar in quirks.

I hope you have many trouble free miles with your '25!

So, against better judgement on getting a first model year on a complete new re-design I went ahead and went with the all new 4th Gen Tacoma. My 2022 TRD with the 6 speed manual was a good truck, but honestly I was getting tired of shifting the thing. Yesterday I took it on its first mini trip that included several towns with many red lights and a couple mountain passes. So that lead to this decision...

So far so good. The 2.4 turbo seems to have plenty of power and the 8 speed automatic is leaps beyond the 6 speed automatic in the 3rd gens. Didn't even hardly downshift on the hills on the state roads I travel. Also from what the truck was saying I got a hair over 26mpg on the way home from the dealer. This was in town and state 45/55mph roads. Truck is equipped with the SR5 Upgrade Package which has the power sliding glass rear window, heated seats/steering wheel, and JBL sound system. The subwoofer does take up some space behind the rear seat.

After a couple Offroads and a Sport thrown in the mix with the way the options are set the SR5 made sense for me. Has plenty of options and I don't offroad so it does just fine.

This model does have the new coil spring rear suspension. I'm not 100% how it handles compared to the 3rd gens as they have the tires jacked up to 45PSI. I'll have to adjust and update.

I did remove that goofy chin spoiler immediately after getting home.

Will it be reliable? Who's to say. I'm sure something will go wrong, but we'll cross that bridge when we get there.
Is Toyota factory fill synthetic oil of some type? I kind of wished they kept the V-6 with a hybrid option. How long before TRD has an upgraded turbo, header, and exhaust for these?
