The Meyers Manx is back. I think it looks incredible. Low production and just a dream for a guy like me though. Would be fun to have a gas option, but being a low production auto maker it likely doesn't matter. They'll be sold out either way.

I've always been a fan, my dad had one when I was a kid we would take to the dunes every year. He put a low mile '93? Ford Escort 1.9L in it and turbo'd it. That really made it scoot! But even with a super-diff and built stronger, the VW transmission could never hold up under all that power and usually blew every trip out. He sold it in 2006 to an old friend, last driven in 2002 or so. I was in contact with the guy last year and I was supposed to buy it, but he sold it out from under me. Oh well.

Me on the left in 1999, with my dad's cousin. Coral Pink Sand Dunes in Utah.

VW built the type 181, Thing or Kübelsitzwagen for a few years. It was about halfway between a car and a dune buggy. Rented one once in Mexico. Lots of fun to drive. I'd buy one today if they still made them.
