2023 toyota Cross oil/filter

Ya she's like way over due now.
Can't even get an answer how long over due. That's the only reason I want a 20k oil
Just want to help her out she has no money. I will be doing it free of charge for her, piece of mind getting a 20k oil for a few bucks extra

You are a very nice guy. I find it interesting that she has no money but also has a 2023 Toyota.

Well, if she’s way overdue there’s a good chance it could benefit from Valvoline Restore and Protect undoing some of the deposits that almost surely resulted.

But I’ll repeat what most have said: Valvoline Restore and Protect is not a long drain oil. It’s about 10k max under ideal conditions of mostly highway use in a non-diluting engine. In my TGDI engine prone to dilution, it was a 5k mile oil. And while “only” 5k miles, it delivered superb wear numbers.

Don’t put too much stock in 20k mile oil claims. They conditions under which that claim is achievable would produce 15k mile life for most non-EP synthetics. EP oils aren’t double the life of non-EP oils.

If someone is broke, that’s why it’s more important to spend money on maintaining the oil. If you think oil changes are expensive, try NOT changing the oil.

Agree,
$35 twice a year for oil and filter is cheap, she's at 43k now I will try to do the next one at 48-50k instead of 53k

Lots of good responses. Due to the uncertainty of the driver, an extended oil type is reasonable. So with that, an EP or ESP are good options. Since it’s still a new car, the 0w-20 is a better option than a 30 at this point.

Did you set up on an oil?

Yes, definitely tell her to bring the car back after 5,000 miles for next oil change, regardless of what the OLM says.

I would do either one of these:
- Valvoline Restore and Protect 5W-30 for 5K miles (for a few oil changes) to make sure it cleans sludge and varnish from overdue oil changes

- Mobil 1 ESP 0W-30 for 7-8K miles

- Pennzoil 0W-20 for 7-8K miles

The oil color and consistency will be your judging point, unless you want to spend extra money and send oil for analysis.

I would stay away from Extended Performance/Protection oils, the stated 15-20K miles on them is complete scam.

Mobil 1 Extended Performance 0w-16 or 0w-20.
Mobil 1 Extended Performance Oil Filter.

Make it happen every Spring.
This engine will be fine in Central Florida.

JMO based upon nearly 400k miles of experience with the M20A series engine.

Also, buy fresh gas, occasionally Top Tier, at busy gas stations.

Since the the vehicle is not owned by the the starter of this thread I was thinking the $28 mobil esp would be sufficient, now by all means if they want to spend the money on Amsoil for someone else's vehicle go for it.
The Mobil 1 product would be excellent. Amsoil would be great, but read the post. We are dealing with a situation where cost is a major factor.

Go to advance auto buy a jug of Valvoline Restore and Protect 0w20 and a car quest Ep filter bundle. (Pay for oil get filter free 17 dollar filter so like getting the oil for 20

Mobil 1 Extended Performance 0W-20 or even better for Florida, 5W-30 OR 10W-30. I have it in my RAV4 and it quieted the engine down. Good oil and at a very good price at Walmart.

Hello,
I will be taking over maintenance on a 2023 Toyota Cross L W/43K, Not hybrid.
My daughters friends free oil changes ran out and she's way over due from my understanding.
From what I have researched it may call for 0w 16 oil not a fan of that weight.
Thinking 0w20 Pennzoil ultra platinum or Mobil 1 extended performance and a toyota or Bosch filter.
I do 5-7k changes but feel it won't happen with her and a 20k oil will give a cushion for time if it goes 7-10k. I don't believe in 10k changes but she will drive till her car says oil change due.
Dont even want to think about the CVT transmission yet.
By the way this car is used in central Florida, never gets cold but does get hot
What oil do you cross owners run ?
That CVT, I will do at 10k for the first time, then I'll go to 30k,

running ow30 right now, not sure if go to 5w30 or not.

Now, like the Toyota Car care nut who has mentioned how the variable oil pumps work, can run at 10 to 15 psi at times and harder accel can see 65 psi with like 0w8.

from what i see live time on my scanner, ow30 performs the exact same way thus far.

I ended up using Mobil 1 0W-16.
Think 0W-20 would be safe
I'm a bit curious of why did you end up using 0W-16 oil when you said above that you're not a fan of that oil grade and also the vehicle is used in Central Florida? Also, I think most of the people on here suggested to go to 0W-20.
Did you get afraid that the vehicle calls for 0W-16 and is under warranty or something else?
