Has Toyota proclaimed they can't make a fuel efficient V8.
Did they try a 10 spd trans on one and engine revisions? Ford can make a 7.3 somewhat efficient on a much larger 3/4-1 ton truck...
The big three have all done so.

Thoughts?

The 3/4 ton+ segments are not subject to fuel economy regulations.

If you notice, none of the domestics have built "all-new" V8 platforms in recent years. The R&D for the Coyote was probably done over 10 years ago.

I understand that but we are just talking on the road real world figures. The Ford 7.3L was very impressive lightly loaded hwy mpg.
And it is huge compared to the 1/2 tons...i put up some great numbers here last year and on 87 octane.

Automakers live in EPA test cycles, and it is all that matters for business purposes.

The new Tundra from what I saw will only be a 15-17 mpg hwy unloaded perfect world machine.

Maybe GM/Ford do, but the 5.7 HEMI with eTorque will get 14-16 around town (depending on season) and 20-21 on the highway. Mixed is 16-18 depending on the season.

Also keep in mind that the Tundra requires 91 for maximum power and efficiency, though the GM 6.2 requires the same.

Yeah and that brings back the diesel...about 50 cents cheaper a gallon here over premium and yes the initial cost but the resale is way higher...and if you're not a long term owner you escape the bad stuff.

Many 1/2 ton buyers really don't need a truck- it is for convenience and luxury. I am one of them, but I justified it because I bought it for a killer price.

Those who buy a 1/2 ton for real work and towing should probably spend a few extra bucks for a 3/4, anyway. I don't know anyone who regretted the upgrade to a 3/4 ton if they did any towing at all.

Using that logic, sky's the limit on pricing for 1/2 tons since they have turned into a "luxury item."

I like making those on my Kia Carnival. It really cuts the balance down!

Never put money down on a lease, you likely won't get it back if its totaled or otherwise disposed of early. If one must lease, lease with nothing down!

I'd have a hard time getting past that front end but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I'm sure it will do what you need a truck to do.

Its not just you, trucks are so really ugly (the Silverado looks like the Homer Simpson car) I mean. They look hideous.

Toyota has had a problem with their grills for awhile, not even sure I like Lexuses now.

For me, the answer is easy, no new cars.

What are you primarily looking for?
