I've been researching this for a few months and what I found was some OE's are using such low vac on their PCV Systems they don't function or function poorly. Then they went to Low Tension rings, DI and next they have stuck oil control rings or they're like the vid sludge makers and smell like fuel.
Toyota went as far as to build a Catch Can into the engine. Plumb a Manometer to the Dip Stick tube and check for -.2 to -.6inH2O at Hot Idle, if it's that low you'll have one like this. You have to be on top of the OCI's or shorten them to match the drivers usage. Move to thicker better oil wouldn't hurt. They really need 1 to 3inHg to be effective.
I assume they did this to keep the Cats clean and they can't have a customer empty a CC every 4 months. I've run my 10 MDX with 1-2inHg vac and a Catch Can and it's working fine, no P0420. Tested now over a thousand miles, that has me over 290K miles. I saw a list of 19 BMW engines and 7 had 0.0mbar at H/I, there are other OE's that do this. I use a Group IV syn 10W-30 when Acura said 20, I never thought that was thick enough and I'm sure that helped seal rings and raise the temp the oil cokes at the ring pack.
