2019 JD Power Initial Quality

I guess it is about perspective and how one wants to interpret the data. I think if the infotainment and bleed edge tech like adaptive cruise, self parking, lane departure and a few other complaints are left out, that list would probably look way different.

Also, new vehicles are like new girlfriends, most can keep it together for the first 90 days, it is the long term down the road when the true warts show up if they are to be had.

LOL. Maybe exclude those models from the sample? IMO it's common knowledge that reliability for a particular model should trend upward over time. IIRC Consumer Reports does that.

...that's why JD Power has a "mechanical" sub-category after 3 years...
 
JD Power is absolutely meaningless, unless your brand is at the top of the list then it's great.

Changes happen on vehicles every year. Waiting for new tech to become bug free may be fruitless.
 
I never quite understood the value of initial quality results. CR's data is imperfect, but does provide much more real life results, albeit from a self selected population. Also seeing their test facilities does inspire confidence in their tests. That said, I always seem to buy from the mid to lower end of their stacked results..... Go LR!

Generally JD Power is a marketing trick invented to hook up manfacturers paying for services. There was some year ago very good article of what kind of nonsense JD Power is.

Ha. Worse is the "Surprise & Delight" category used by one of the other survey whores

Living in Michigan every commercial on the few TV channels I watch is GM . I'm not exaggerating if there is seven commercials during a break five of them will be GM touting how great they are . It's like they are trying to pound it in till you believe it . " That's not a Buick " Longest lasting " bla bla bla . I'm so glad I don't have to pay for TV . I only get 42 channels but that's fine with me .

It's not a reliability study. The title clearly states "INITIAL QUALITY."

They have another study, called "Dependability Study" that looks at 3-year-old vehicles. Here it is for comparison:

Yep, if they wanted to do a study that held some meaning, they'd list the problems over a 300K mile period...
