Pennzoil Conventional passes for the Ford spec. required for that vehicle. You are allowed to use it under warranty. Forget about the NOACK. If it passes, it passes and allowed to be used under warranty. So say you change that oil every 5000 miles with Pennzoil Conventional and change with appropriate oil filter faithfully. Engine has oil related failure within warranty. Ford would be required by law to honor the warranty, period. But like what other posters say, I don't see how Ford approves using a conventional oil for that engine, being its direct injection and turbocharged. If it were my vehicle, I would use a full synthetic oil. But I concluded, its your vehicle, you do what you want.

I like the idea of synthetic oil as well. Had I known the engine WAS DI it might have occurred to me to use at the least a syn blend. But, being it's not my vehicle, I can NOW only suggest what you good members here (well, some of you not so much) suggest and hope he listens.

He is saying that the circumstances being discussed in this thread are nothing like the differential fluid example that your friend provided. In his example, the diff fluid was wrong. In this thread, on the other hand, the Pennzoil Conventional is not wrong because it meets the required spec.

Again, sure, there are better alternatives to Pennzoil Conventional in this case, but Pennzoil Conventional does not violate your warranty.

No, not a High Mileage oil. It is Quaker State's full synthetic oil line.

IMO, it would only play a huge role if it was extremely high, but basic API specs already limit how high it can be. And as I mentioned earlier, Ford's own Motorcraft 5w30 blend (presumably the oil that your friend uses in their service bays) has the same Noack as Pennzoil Conventional 5w30.

QP, when I used to get my truck serviced there, he was a senior tech. He told me that a lot of their bulk oil is/was actually 5W30. He didn't state if they use it in 5W20 applications, but, I bet they have.

It has to do with Ford and their bulk oil. When you get an OCI at Ford, do you ACTUALLY know if it's 5W20 or 5W30 bulk oil?

Oh, I see.

Presumably they have multiple bulk oil barrels to cover the different grade requirements. But whether they actually dispense from the correct barrel every time is another story, I guess.
 
I have approx. 2,000 mi.to go on my F150 2.7 ecoboost before 2nd OC. I am using the IOLM, which takes it to about 10,000 mi. per OC. I didn't sample the factory fill, but did run it to the IOLM told me to change. The truck currently has about 18,000 mi.total. Current fill is Citgo 5w30, I have no problem using the IOLM to its fullest extent, there is no increase noticeable on the dipstick and its drive cycle is mostly highway with minimal stop and go.

I also own a 6.7 PowerStroke and use the IOLM which takes me to 8,000-10,000 mi. between changes, samples always come back superb.

The local Ford dealership near me uses MC blend in 5w30 and 5w20
 
I have this exact vehicle only 2016. 5000 mile changes at dealer with Motorcraft 5w30 Semi Synthetic. Those were paid by FoMoCo on maintenance plan included in purchase price. Next change on my dime will be PP with a Napa filter.
