Found the AC Delco 5w30 synthetic for $3.58 at Gmpartsgiant. I'll see if the store down the street will match that, they usually hook up another dealer employee. Can't believe it's so cheap, not complaining! Now if they had the 5qt jug.....
Just saw the Walmart Supertech synthetic is Dexos approved. It used to be really good syn, only $17 for 5 quart jug. Pennzoil Platinum seems to come in quite a few formulations that are all Dexos.
I am so glad that my most recent GM purchase is a 2015 2500 6.0. And I will keep my 2006 Caddy CTS for a lot longer. This dexos thing is getting ridiculous. Neither of my vehicles uses a dexos "approved" oil and they do just fine. GM specified Mobil 1 5w30 for the Caddy and it gets a 10w30 conventional year round. I alternate 5w30 winter / 10w30 summer for the 2500. Those are synthetic, but not on the "approved" list... Gen 1 or Gen 2. Never have given it more than a passing thought about it.
Not sure what to make of Dexos. After reading my manual, it also states to switch to 0-40 Dexos 2 or Valvoline Syn Power MST 5w40 or M! ESP Form M 5w40 if you're going to engage in high performance driving.
I just ordered 12 qts from our Buick dealership for $3.78 @ qt my cost. They deliver for free, so that worked out great. I'll see how it does then decide if I'm gonna keep using it. The next two are free, so I may still get them done. It satisfies their warranty requirements, so at least they can't say I used an oil that wasn't approved.

Dexos is a spec, not a oil. It seems those issues were due to cheap parts and oci that were way too long. If the ac delco full synthetic oil was bad to the point where it caused engine failures, dealers wouldn't poor it in thousands of cars each day.
My 3.6 has gotten a 10w30 conventional that claims to meet the 6094M spec recommended for that engine in my owners manual. Fill cap and manual say to use Mobil 1 5w30. I never haved relied on OLM stuff for any of my vehicles. I just go with a 5000 mile regimen on that engine. My 2015 2500 gets spring and fall oil changes. 5w30 in fall and 10w30 in spring. Obviously, the 10w30 is not dexos1 rated, but is GF-5 and SN rated. Many fleet users even fill their newer GM vehicles with the same bulk oil they use for other equipment and have no problems. So I give the dexos1 thing very little of my attention.
