Ok, long time no post. I haven't owned a GM F-body since 2009 and I ran exclusively GC. FFWD to now and the Camaro requires Dexos which I have read nothing about. I got excited at Walmart last night when I found what I thought was that infamous GC only to find it's 0/40 made in Belgium and for some reason it's not Dexos. The crazy thing is, it holds 10 quarts! I thought my recent Mustangs using 8 were crazy. I didn't even do research on the car and bought it the same day from a dealer without shopping them. I've never done that before, but I knew I wanted it and I knew they offered me a stupid a&^ deal. I'm in the car business, so I know what's up. It does have direct injection, so I assume that may have some bearing (no pun intended) on oil type. Thanks for any guidance. My first two oil changes are free from GM.

Napa Synthetic is on sale for only $3.49/qt and it is dexos

Well now that it is 10qts that makes it easy to change out with just 5qt containers. Before like my 2013 Camaro with 8qts it sucked because you had to do the split container thing, unless you got oil in gallon jugs.

Just pick any of the dexos1 oils on the shelf. You will be fine. Use your free changes first.

GM dealers are now using AC Delco full synthetic. Which is made by Exxon/Mobil and is Dexos approved. I just found out my local dealer sells quart bottles for $4.25 each. Check with your parts dept. after you use up the free ones.

Unless you plan to track it you don't need to go crazy and spend big $ I run Castrol GTX Magnatec 5w30 in my 2013 Mustang GT with great results. I think it is Dex approved?

Pretty sure it comes FF with Mobil 1, why not use that? Best not risk voiding the warranty...

OP works for a dealer, owns two V8 Mustangs and can't figure out what oil to use in his new Camaro?

Something fishy here.

actually it sounds like a typical SA...

Fishy. Right. I no longer have either Mustang. I'm simply asking questions. I work for a Land Rover dealer. Nothing like GM. I had never heard of Dexos as I had my local Ford dealer change the oil on both Mustangs because they were stupid cheap. They used Motorcraft. You two sound like typical keyboard you know whats. Why post if you have nothing but [censored] to say?

That's a great price for full synthetic oil too. I'll check with the Chevy dealer nearby. I bought mine at one that isn't close enough to stop by.

Castrol EDGE 0w-40 is a high HT/HS Euro oil. Dexos, on the other hand, has fuel economy as one of its requirements. So the two are at the opposite end of the spectrum. You can't have both in a single product.

With that said, I'm sure there are plenty of Dexos approved lubricants available at Walmart.
