Outbacks have the blue filters because they are assembled in Indiana. It was well made for a bottom end filter, very uniform but paper ends and thin metal. The Wix I put in was black and looks like the better made in Japan filters that are on all the other Subaru's. There is no law stating you have to use a factory filter and oil to maintain warranty! If a manufacturer does, it has to be provided at no cost. Could you imagine on 100k powertrain vehicles if everyone had to buy oil and filters from their dealer, silly!

I remember my '14 OB begin extremely dark for its first oil change (at 6K, not 700mi) but it has been lighter since.

I don't want to drain out the FF too early and lose all of the Assembly Lubes and possibly break-in additives that protect during the first several thousand miles. Ed

I don't think there is "break in" oil for Subaru, they recommend a 3750m OCI for severe service and doesn't say anything about keeping it for the duration like some other cars do. But if the metal dust needed to be in there longer I guess it's my bad.

It's been over a year since my last UOA posting and boy do I feel like an idiot now. Between Windows 10, Blackstones PDF and trying to post here I cant get anything to work. I'll post it when I figure it out. No big news though, copper was 53, silicon was 290, and everything else was near the 5800m average, with 782m on the FF. No high moly or anything else to make anyone think the FF was anything special.
