Have a close friend of the family who’s looking for a 2015 or new Honda CRV. I believe these are the ones with the fuel dilution issue. As long as his frequent oil changes every 6 to 8000 miles should not be an issue. Also, whatever things should she look out for. It will probably be me actually going to look at the car for her. She really is interested in any other car and I do think Honda makes good cars.

*Yes, your friend can still get the K24(2.4L) engine in the base CR-V LX.
*All CR-V from 2015-present have the CVT instead of the regular automatic transmission.
*2015 was also the change over to the new(er) K24 engine(189hp) with Direct Injection and the above CVT.
*Prior years(2012-14) CR-V's have the older K24(2.4L) non-direct injection(~160ish HP) with a 5 speed automatic transmission.

*2017 was the next generation CR-V and all LX trim were still available with the 2.4L up to 2019.
*Then 2020-22 were all 1.5T(turbo) which experienced the fuel dilution.
*And 2023 was the next redesign of CR-V

Fuel dilution in the 2.4 DI is not much of an issue, certainly less so than the 1.5T that followed. K24s can suffer from mild oil consumption issues if oil changes aren’t attended to (more frequently than the Maintenance Minder suggests, I would argue) so pay attention to maintenance records if they are available. They also have a minor engine vibration at idle issue that can be annoying, but a tug on the steering wheel to require a bit of effort from EPAS tames it.

A friend of mine has a '18, '19, and just bought a '21 or 22? model, all used for rural mail delivery and they are doing great. I think the highest mileage one of that gen is coming up on 150K, but both the older ones have been running a route for at least two years and they are not needing much work at all.

Even more impressive is the 2014 that he bought at 60K, now has 210 with no major powertrain work and most of its original suspension. Its current route is 100 miles and 400 stops per day - he actually puts the worst/newest driver in it because it wouldn't be as big a deal if it got wrecked, etc.

My wife's current DD is a 2001 with 376K on original powertrain and still running like a pocket watch. Pretty impressive for a relatively small/light duty model to retain such a good track record generation after generation.

If possible (and it's what they want), look at the 2.4L-port + 5-spd auto combo.

had a 2009 CRV last 299k miles until sold to my mechanic. Only work needed was suspension and a new alternator. original fuel pump never touched

That CRV was replaces with a 2020 CRV, 1.5L CVT.....that high pressure fuel pump failed at 85k miles

My dad has a 2012 CRV that I do the basic maintenance on. 105K miles it's been a great car. Very simple setup with the 2.4 engine and 5 speed transmission. Many don't like CVT's so it depends on how they feel about that on the newer ones 2015 or newer. The Honda CVT's are pretty good I think especially considering that the 5 speeds weren't perfect themselves. I would say definitely look for the non turbo trim levels.

We owned a 2015 with cvt. I had no idea it was a direct injection motor, really? Zero oil consumption or dilution issues. Engine was a smooth runner. Transmission tuning was a delight for a cvt, something for everyone depending on eco, normal and sport. Starters in these are known to lose their contacts prematurely. 27mpg day after day.

Some have a vibration issue at idle, there’s a TSB for it. Ours would stall on occasion, never figured it out. The stalling got worse around 85k and the CVT started making noises that sounded a lot like an ailing AC compressor. We traded it once I figured out where the noise was coming from.

My only complaint was that our copy was hard to steer precisely in the highway, EPS. I’ve heard few complaints from others on the matter.

Don't be afraid of the 1.5T. If the friend finds a decent one at a decent price buy it.

If over 120K miles or so, may need fuel injectors checked.

Find out if funky work has been done like any car (like leaving the brake rattle shims out)

And other junk that breaks has been fixed (tiny wires to AC condenser pressure switch and driver's side rear door lock wiring)
