My sister has a 2007 black honda civic purchased new. I noticed the other day that the paint has worn off the roof to the primer in several spots. She mentioned it to the dealer and they told her there was a TSB for the hood but not the roof. Anyone work for honda can provide insight into this. She is dissapointed the paint looks so bad for a car that is 6 years old. She washes the car regularly btw.

Maybe she washes too hard/wrong/incorrect chemicals, etc?

These modern water based paints I believe are soft and more succeptible to water spotting, etc. Acid rain and the like will surely also do a number, as will UV.

Ive long heard that "Honda quality" includes horrid paint. Our friends CRV has had a small rust bubble since about a year.

No problems with my dark blue 2007 Civic EX paint.

Is her car parked in the sun all day ?

Car is parked outside. We live in NJ. It does not get hot like FLA most of the year....

It is atypical, she should inquire with Honda Care. They generally are pretty good about standing behind their products.

Honda paint holds up fine in New England generally.

You sure it is down to the primer and just not heavily oxidized? pics?

A lack of proper paint maintenance and improper washing technique can do that in 6 years but it would be hard to do.

had a 98 accord that i sold in 2007. most of the paint was gone off the roof and starting in a few spots on the hood, and that car spent 60% of its time in a garage..

I have bad issues with rock chips wearing down to the primer that I haven't had on other makes but over all my paints holding up well on my red 2007 Civic. I wash and wax it about every 2 months in the winter and every 2 weeks in the summer. Use Megs Ult Liq Wax and my car sits outside all of the time. No cover, carport or garage. I have noticed early on bird poop will wear through the clear coat enough to show if you don't clean it off quickly. If it wears through enough the paint could be exposed to the weather causing it to wear off down to the primer. Got to take that stuff off ASAP with spit and a napkin if nothing else nearby.

I would disagree with you on this. She took it to the dealer who she bought 2 new cars from. This car was purchased new! They said there is a problem with paint on hood and fenders but not the roof and it wasnt their issue. I dont think that is standing behind there product.

My 2006 Odyssey had paint that bubbled and flaked off, had to be repaired 3 times in the first 24 months I owned it. BTW it's garaged and only driven about once a week.
