Block material: cast aluminum
Cylinder head material: cast aluminum

I wonder what was skipped that the customer will have to deal with?
All aluminum block? Yeah, that will hold up in a full size truck for 200k miles. I am sure glad I bought the old Silverado !

Aluminum blocks are old technology, and they hold up just fine. GM is finally spending a bit of money making a modern power train.

When I buy a new truck I fully intend on keeping it 10-15 years and I don't foresee any problems that my 05 didn't have, maybe less.

Don't throw your positivity on his wet blanket.......

Laugh now in about 2 years or less you will be at the dealership wondering why you are having problems and no one is helping you, much less 10-15 years.

May be the best opinion I've read in a long time here...

I'm sure the new GM motors are just fine, and my next truck will have one. Besides they have a 5 year 100k warranty so if the motor pops its covered.

I'll get the V6 as well since I want the mileage and have the V6 currently. 285hp is plenty, its not a race car and I have nothing to tow other than an aluminum boat.

I have the old V6 and a truck set up the way I use it, ie 2wd 8ft bed regular cab its plenty. My only complaint is you have to beat the transmission with a stick to get it to downshift. Its very much like driving a 1970's and 80's Mercedes in that regard. Floor it, beg for downshift, beg for downshift...please....and it shifts!

My engine with the new 6spd and would probably be plenty and I have 90hp less than the new 4.3.

The 5 year 100k warranty is fine but who wants to deal with the hassle? My car spend 4 months in and out of the dealership. Even with the 5 year 100k warranty it was tough, Rental after rental dealing with the dealership and arbitration. It was no fun. After that I decided no more risking on unproven tech. If it was not been out for 5 years I stay away from it. Things can happen down the road they just can't test for in the lab.

If that were really true, aircraft would be the most unreliable vehicles ever made. But, in fact, they are much more reliable than cars, and safer too.

I'm remain unconvinced of the unreliability of new tech. In fact, cleaner running engines often last much longer. The modern 4.6L Ford eng outlasts many diesels in fleet use. It's that good. No 5.0 Ford pushrod V8 comes close to the reliability and lifespan of the more complex 4.6.

If no one bought the new model, we'd still be getting around by a horse and carriage.

There is, put him on your ignore list. Then you don't see any content of his posts.

Hover your pointer over his login name in the upper left hand corner of any of his posts, and then click. A menu will appear. Choose "View Profile". Then, on the next screen look for "Ignore this user" in the menu bar above the "About Me" section.

Good to know, thanks!

Then I would suggest being polite, keeping your mouth shut, and buying used.

Yes, this is an internet forum and opinions are encouraged. But if your intention is to share your experiences, you may need to find a different angle; many of your posts come across as inflammatory and, as such, you don't seem to be communicating effectively with the rest of the group.

Thanks for the advice but it seems to me the "rest of group" is closed minded and believes Ford, Toyota and especially GM can do no wrong. I seen people including myself burned by the big company's and in due time the future posts will reflect that others are now upset that GM will not back them with their problems.

I don't believe I am inflammatory just no one likes to hear their new $30 + truck may not be the best.

FYI don't tell me to keep my mouth shut...

Interesting. As we buy more trucks than many posters here and our entire fleet has been exclusively GM products since 1995 I feel qualified to tell you simply this: Baloney.

I am in business. I have no loyalty to any brand, I use the most economical vehicle for my company's good. This includes initial price, maintenance, and resale value.

Find me a better truck for my usage and I really will buy one!
