2014 Silverado Double Cab Opinions

My point is the 2014 has not been out very long. Yes if you had one 3 + years and 150k miles with no problems that's different. No one can say that yet.

If you'll re-read my post, you'll recognize that I didn't tell you to do anything. I made a suggestion based upon the fact that your point doesn't seem to be getting across to many folks here. Few people enjoy talking (or typing) without getting any traction, so I made the suggestion to either give up or find a different angle. It'll likely be less frustrating for you and folks won't have to build-up their "ignore user" lists. It was a suggestion made in good will on my part.

You, of course, are free to do as you choose, within the left-and-right boundaries of the BITOG rules.

I would like to report that after 1.5 weeks of ownership and nearly 600 miles of mixed driving, she still rides like a new one!
The ride/handling quality is great. The quiet cabin is even better. The power of the V6 is impressive (no load so far...have not had a chance to load'er up yet and test her true work ethic). Did I take a chance on a new model? Yup. Guilty. I am en engineer by edumacation and degree.....I just cant help myself from drooling over the new technologies that are now becoming mainstream. I am proud of myself for holding off for the past 3 years or so until DI and some of the other tech's in this Silverado had a chance to mature a bit. I MAY get bit with some unforeseen reliability issue(s), but I weighed the odds and decided that, in my situation, the odds were worth the bet. Prior to this truck, I was driving an '06 Odyssey minivan. I had given my last truck ('04 F150 SCrew) to my son 2.5 yrs ago and decided to suck it up with the van until I was ready to get me another truck. I had the van up to 223k mi on the original transmission and with zero maintenance issues on Honda's infamous iVTEC V6. For the folks who follow Honda, you know that is a major accomplishment!

Maybe I felt lucky after the great luck with the Honda (actually....we owned 2 Oddysseys back-to-back with NO major issues). Or, maybe my care and driving habits lend themselves to good reliability....90% highway driving, mild winters, no abuse (but plenty of spirited driving!),and serious attention to preventative maintenance.

600 miles I nothing yet. let us know in 20k or better yet 100k. Have a feeling you are going to be spending a lot of time at the dealership.

OMG Don't you know when to let it go? We got it 10 posts ago. OP has a new truck that he's happy with...be happy for him.

Do you seriously believe that every single truck GM makes is garbage and is going to need major repairs?

My goodness, give it a rest, man.

We get it!

No my old style 2012 GM truck is good. I think GM has not tested the 2014 with the new tech enough yet and there will be problems.

Trucks where pretty simple. But now we have VVT, aluminum blocks, DI, aluminum frame componets, etc. Not simple any more.

And the heart of the problem: cognitive dissonance. GM changed the model, thus, the older model must be junk--BUT--since millerb100 owns one he must defend his choice to continue ownership. No shades of gray, everything is either-or.

Bought a Ford awhile back. First model with big changes in 10 years, big problems. Bought a Chevy First model with big changes in 10 years, big problems. Bought a Honda First model with big changes in 5 years, big problems. See a trend?

Thats way I wait 5 years for the bugs in the new changes to get ironed out. The 2012 GM I have now has not had any major changes for 10 years. It's stable.

First of all, the 600 mile statement was just a joke. I fully expect to get 3,000 mi before she starts falling apart!

Bought a first year 01 Odyssey. No problems. Bought a first year '04 F150 Lariet. No problems. Bought an '06 2nd yr Odyssey. No problems. Bought an '09 2nd yr CRV, no problems. These were all brand new vehicles.

As I admitted in my last post, I fully know I am taking some risk with the new model, but after researching and test driving, there was no way the geek engineer inside of me could go back and purchase the old style '13 for almost exactly the same $$ as the newly designed '14. With the current incentives, the price difference between the '13 and '14 is negligible ($150 difference in the case of my dad who purchased a '14 regular cab after going to dealership to look into a '13 regular cab).

I wish I could get those prices. My 2012 was 15k cheaper that a 2014. (But I still would not take the risk) Have fun!

You never heard me say to stop posting, just a change of subject would be nice.

Let's talk about VVT and Cylinder deactivation. Your 2012 should have those technologies in it, eh? Had any problems?

Cylinder deactivation....
In my 06 Odyssey, if I was paying attention, I could feel a tiny 'bump' when cylinders activated/deactivated. Also, I could hear a faint 'drone' when cylinders were inactive. With the new Silverado....I have not been able to detect any difference whatsoever. Maybe when I get fully 'in tune' with the truck's pulse, I will be able to detect it, but currently I cannot detect any change in sound or feel whatsoever. Pretty cool.

Oh, and the sound of the direct injection system is different than what I am used to hearing. Nothing bad, but it is definitely a different brand of 'sewing machine' than that of the 5.4 F150 I was used to hearing.
