Hello all,

The question is concerning the Sonata in the signature. The Santa Fe Sport will get synthetic due to being forced-induction (turbo). The Sonata, however, isn't a turbo but is a direct injection 2.4 4cyl vehicle.

I currently went with Mobil 1 for both but am considering using QSUD (or staying with M1) 5w30 for the turbo and QSGB 5W-20 for the non-turbo after this run. The driving for each is non-severe so 5K mile oci for turbo and 7500K for non-turbo are my plans. The reason i went with M1 this time? Not to mention their product's excellent reputation (as are the SOPUS oils), their website is far-and-away the most informative as well.

I'm leaning to QSGB.

Thoughts are welcome...

Can you do 7,500 mile intervals and keep your warranty intact? I am currently doing 5k OCI's with Castrol Dexos syn blend in the KIA, but I've read they've tweaked their OCI intervals.

QSGB is great in these engines, if you're leaning towards it go for it and do shorter intervals.

Hey KCJ',

My OM states 7500 miles for normal and 3750 for severe. The online guide does as well.

I have a 2011 Elantra Touring SE, granted a different motor. But while the powertrain warranty is still in effect, I will be doing 4K OCI's with either a dino or a blend, and my car does not get severe service. BTW I have plenty of QSGB in my stash. When the warranty expires, I'll extend to 5K. It's not worth getting in a pixxing contest with Hyundai America in the event of an engine claim.

Thanks. I did check and it's normal svc. 70% of the time i drive 45-55mph, 35-40 miles round trip (to and from work) on back roads that have very few traffic lights. Drive to work - 10am / drive home - 8pm. I encounter traffic maybe one day a week (when i drive normal rush hour times). Average temps when i drive are btwn 80-85'F. Other 30% is hwy. Wife drives the turbo and her daily commute is even less severe.

Lol. Hey Volv04Life, (cringe) and now it's $11.67 for the 1 gal jug (Walmart Role Back). No qt bottles were available when i looked though.

I'd lean towards that, too. I'd be petrified of fuel dilution, thanks to my F-150 carb experience and being used to LPG taxis, and probably have great difficulty straying beyond the severe service intervals. Down the road, a UOA or two could easily alleviate that concern.

I m using m1 5w20 ep but will switch to m1 0w30 afe in october.i was gona stick with ep but my car has 2 injector per cylinder ,so nissan 5w30 likely is the reason m1 0w30 afe should be parfect for my car

It'll be interesting to hear you answer that question.

Sticking with the oil company's/oil-cap/OM/vehicle mfr main viscosity recommendation. There is also nothing that a 5w30 can offer that cannot be acheived by the recommended 5W-20 in this engine according to Hyundai, SOPUS and XOM (i called them all). I'm sure either would suffice.

I was in that court as well (as you well know my friend

). The Techs at the dealership and at HyundaiUSA (not the Customer Svc reps that answer the phone), as well as some of the senior members here, have put my fears to rest. Advising that some dilution is factored into these engines and has a negligble effect if stringent adherence to OCi schedules are maintained. So far my nose does not detect any fuel in either vehicle...so far.

Keep in mind it's 3750/7500mi. but whichever it must be done over a ~6 month max. interval, as it's a "whichever comes first" deal to keep warranty.

My opinion, if you're not going to get closer to 7500, then synthetic doesn't make sense. 5-6k mi oci or less, go dino. If QSGB is your choice that will work, as will most any major's dino imo.
