The Hyundai was all about form with no substance. The Cruze just the opposite. I have over 1,000 on it in two weeks. The Cruze is a better driver's car in every way. Better handling, fuel mileage, less road noise and engine noise. Stay with your Cruze.

Yes, I gave up some interior room in the Sonata but interior room means nothing if the car is miserable to drive.

I agree with you. My MIL was recently given a brand new Sonata loaner car when her vehicle was being worked on at the dealership. I really like the exterior of the Sonata and was anxious to drive it as I was considering it for a future vehicle purchase. The thing rode like a boat and was a huge disappointment. Hyundai/Kia may have come a long way, but they still have a ways to go.

Popinski, have you driven a current generation Sonata?

I have and also have ridden in many other American cars. I like the Big 3 but majority of the cars are not that good.

My love for Chrysler/GM/Ford and the "American-Made" pride is dying. Thanks to the ignorant people. My next car will definitely be a foreign brand, particulary Hyundai.

I'm done here.

Shocking...

ems1 & sciphi,

Good to know. I like their styling but I have to say I have not driven a new one. I never realized the Cruze was that big, doesn't look it although I've never seen a Cruze and Sonata side by side. The wife may not care much about dynamics but I do, so more "hands on" investigation is needed....lol.

I agree with the one size doesn't fit all comment. What I like in a car doesn't make it right for everyone. And look at my sig, I'm very happy to see the Cruze being well received, I've only owned one vehicle that wasn't a GM.

The Cruze is actually a pretty big car. And it sits high too. I was behind one last night in the wife's 328 and the Cruze looked like a 4x4 in comparison, just a much higher sitting car.

Gosh, all you got is name calling left, huh?

I took you for a more cerebral person. You need to get over yourself and realize that not everyone loves Hyundai. They have great promise, but a ways to go yet. I could care less where they come from, they just flat don't get it for a real enthusiast who drives many kinds of cars and enjoys the experience.

I was VERY surprised when I actually saw the Cruze for the first time.

It's not very small! And it has dynamite ergonomics inside. A great place to hang out if you were a commuter!

Japanese manufacturers made custom bikes to compete with Harley Davidson. They have similar design cues. But people say that they're "influence". The japanese make full-size pickups so they can go head to head with American pickups and it is called "influence".

Koreans make things to compete with others and it's called "copy".

I've said this a billion times on here but people just don't get it. Uneducated and ignorant. The only thing I need to get over are people like you. Uneducated and ignorant.

So anyone who doesn't like Hyundai's is ignorant and uneducated? I think I get it now.

Everyone on this board knows you have an undying love affair with Korean cars. I suspect it's because as I gather, you're a Korean-American. That's great, but it doesn't automatically make their cars better than everyone else.

Hyundai has done a great job of making "checklist beaters". By the numbers, their cars outspec, outsize, and outperform their competition - often to a hilarious degree... you can tell what they're trying to do. However, the reality of the total package still isn't there. And my saying that doesn't make me ignorant and uneducated. I've driven, been in, and reviewed and compared Korean vehicles.

And for what it's worth, when the Japanese were hot on copying everyone else, no one called it "influence". They called it copying. It was a running joke at the time, the way it is now for Hyundai. See Porsche 944/Mazda RX-7 history for just one example.

Some folks complain about the seats in the Cruze. I find they fit my rear and back just fine. I'm in the car for 2-3 hours a day some days of the week, and find the interior to be a comfy place to spend time. That's me, however. Everybody's different.

It's really not as small as folks think it is based on its being sold as a "compact" car. Based on interior room, it's a midsize car. It's styled so it hides its size well.

I really liked my old Hyundai Elantra wagonoid-thing. That car was a "total package" in that it really did deliver what its specs promised. The new Elantra sedan I passed over in favor of the Cruze after test-driving them both.

And, I hope this Elantra GT hatch delivers what its specs promise!

I really liked the last-gen Elantra GT. Thought it was a good idea that really transformed the sedan.

I'm glad to see Hyundai recognizes that as well, and has built a new one - I figured it was gone for good!

Good job, Hyundai!

Bleh, I gotta chill. Sorry for my outburst(s).

I just have to.

I haven't been on in a while; co-worker had a heart attack and now in a coma. 2-weeks earlier, he was telling everyone that he was working over-time so he could take his kids and wife to Disney world.

It made me think about life. I will no longer debate/argue about dumb things in real life and on BITOG--it's a waste of life.
