I have a 2010 Mercury Mountaineer with a 4.0 I developed a coolant leak and have found it to be from the Oil cooler which holds that oil filter. The cooler is no longer available # 1L2Z6A642FA or OKC21 Has anyone out there had this issue and if so what did you do? I worry that If I use something else that I will have leaks... Thoughts? Suggestions?

Seems to be a supply chain problem. Can you back order from a local dealer?

Had a similar experience with a piece of trim - not in stock, not available. Anywhere.

Ordered directly from the dealer. It took six weeks, but I had priority because of that order. It came in yesterday.

Go though this regularly with small engine parts. There are many sites that list it as available only to find your order NLA. I'd try to find a good used lower mileage one. Otherwise watch online sources for that part number that might specialize in obsolete parts.

I would be very wary of using a junkyard or salvage oil cooler. Purely because you don't know the reason for the failure and these can't be cleaned out completely if there is any metal debris from the previous engine.
Bone yards have & are an excellent source of used parts. As with anything it can be hit or miss however. When one can no longer find a new one then where else to go but the pick n pull LOL. I agree this is a gamble item but perhaps they can put it through some heated vinegar to descale? Most bone yards have a 30-90 day warranty & if enough runtime they'd probably see the coolant turning dark with oil contamination within that time frame if it was a bad cooler. Also, how widespread is oil cooler failures on this engine? That could tell the tale if it's too much a gamble.

I hope after the efforts put forth on this thread that the OP will return and update what he's going to do.

Fwiw, very much agree @fantastic thoughts on used parts, Obviously, if available, new OEM parts are the preferable and safest way to go. That said, having watched Eric O on South Main Auto channel and his trips to local pull a part salvage yard to complete 'some' of his jobs, they can fit the bill. As an aside, I have much respect for Eric O.

They use I believe Revolution Parts tyo handle their online sales. I flatly rejected that program because part of it is listing obsolete parts as shown on hand to get people to call. Here are the dealers that show one on hand. The distance thing is from Santa Barbara.

I joined to say thank you for posting this. The one in my wife’s explorer had a hole in from rusting through one of the ends. Wouldn’t have know that there was one in stock only 30 minutes from me. How did you get a search like this? Thanks again.

It is a company called OE Connection. They do all teh data mining for dealer parts locator searches. Last invoice I saw we pay something like $450 a month for it in addition to the $650 or so we pay monthly for parts catalogs.

Is the cooler cracked or is one of the connections leaking? Pretty common for the lines to shrink/harden and the clamps no longer hold pressure.

The problem is with the metal "tubes" that come out of the cooler.. they are pitted and have developed small holes. I initially thought it was a hose problem however when removing the hoses I found additional holes under the hoses... and any pressure against the tubes causes additional holes. I am afraid to purchase a used one only to find hidden damage like I currently have.. Prior to posting here I called and emailed everyone that supposedly had one in stock (that I could initially find) only to have them tell me that they could "order" one... although no one could tell me when I could expect it.
