Here is the used oil analysis of the rear differential. This is the factory fill which is Kawasaki Wet Gear Lube. I refilled it with the same, but my next fill will be with Shell Donax TD (SOPUS equivalent of Mobil Fluid 424--which is one of the recommended oils in the OM). The rear differential has a wet brake.

Thoughts and comments always welcome.

 
OK, so this is a four-wheeler.

What was the viscosity of the original lube?

What kind of metallurgy (bearings, gearing, etc) is used in the diffy's?

Most diffy fluids are 75W90's in the viscosity range of 14.5 to 16 cSt, as are 10W40's.

If that was the case, then these diffy's are shearing the snot out of the fluids.

This is a 30 weight lube. From what I can see the gears are ring and pinion with ball bearings. Exploded View of Rear Differential

Probably simple bevel gears, and not hypoid?

If the diff isn't a hypoid a motor oil will work???? New components used oil analysis can be ugly.

The rear diff has a wet brake so it requires wet brake lube. I used the Kawasaki brand last OC, but I am planning to switch to Shell Donax on the next OC.
