Hey all,

Got a 2005 Lexus GX 470. Want to change out the bottom end fluids.

FT and Rear Diffs call for SAE 90 wt or 85w90....Could I use something like Amsoil 75w90 Severe Gear Lube with the GL5 rating?

The TC uses 75w90 already.

I put Valvoline 80w90 Synthetic Blend last time and seems to be OK. That was 30k ago. Car has 65k on it.

certainly you could - although I believe it is overkill unless you do some serious towing. For example, I tow a 6000lb boat behind a 5500lb truck approx 2000 miles every summer - that is fully loaded with 5 people on board - and I only use normal Amsoil gear lube. of course, I probly woulda considered severe gear if it had been available when I put the locker in the rear end

The 75w90 is totally fine and will last a LONG time in that thing if you aren't towing or off-roading.

Cool...I'm not towing anything with it. Just want to be overly confident in the use of Amsoil 75w90 Severe Gear Lube before I buy it.

I want this SUV to last a while.

Thanks!

Any full synthetic 75w90 will work fine. Amsoil is a great choice.

Don't forget the coolant, brake fluid, PSF, ATF....

The GX470/4runner is a great vehicle and will last you a long time.
