The pool of good used cars is diminishing and the pool of poor used cars has benefited as uninformed buyers spend.
The 2005 Corolla is what I would call a good used car, but at what cost might depend on seller being retail location, I don't think a private-party seller is going to be able to get ~$6k unless maintenance records and condition are near perfect, but having a retail location can avail the seller to the higher asking price.
I've seen one car lot buy whole-sale from another and mark the price up ~$6k on a similar example, though less mileage, that was the same generation Pontiac Vibe (same Toyota 1.8 drive-train), that was about 2 years ago, this dealer is always way high on prices as they are probably the one that advertise hand picked trade ins, if I recall correctly. Another high price dealer advertises cars from the south implying they are rust free, which is a buyer beware, some of their cars are not southerners...As I seen another dealer advertise rust free on 2 4Runners that had rusty frames but if you just looked at the body it wasn't apparent.
