2005 Chevy Aveo "break-in" oil?

Anybody know what "break-in" oil is used in the Chevy Aveo (Daewoo Kalos)?

My mother just bought a brand new 2005 Chevy Aveo and after about 2 months and 2000 miles the oil still looks as clean and as clear as it did the day she drove it off the lot.

The OM is vauge on what oil to use. All it says is use an API SL 5w30 oil. And the OCI is up to 7500 miles depending on driving conditions. Even including the first oil change (changing out the "break-in" oil).

I'll be switching her over to Amsoil XL 5w30 (formerly known as XL-7500 5w30) at her first oil change. Which I had first thought I would do around 3000 miles. But if the "break-in" oil still looks as clean as it does now, I may wait and change it later. Maybe around 5000 miles.

Either way, when I do change it, I'll get a sample analysed and see what's in there and how well it performed.

The oil may look clean but the metal particles in it are too small to be seen.

I would change it now. Then set the drain pan out in the sun and you probly will see lots of sparlies.

I'd run it to 5,000 miles or so, dump it then put the XL in. I don't think you have to change the oil out so quickly these days. It's just not necessary IMO.

Drop the oil ASAP and use a good conventional motor oil until 5000 miles.

Then switch to synthetic.

Changing the factory fill soon will rid the engine of the casting sand and metal particles from a new engine.

I change the oil out on my new cars at 3000.

Do mind your mom to vary rpm and speed and occasionally run it to redline to stretch those piston rods out.

i'm quite sure that the aveo is pretty easy on oil, so im wouldnt be too worried if you go and do your oil change at 5000 or even 7500

find out from chevy what kind of filter and motor oil was put in at the factory. if you discover a high quality filter was used (tier 1), I woululd leave the filter on a nd change the oil only.do not mix oil brands. then at your next oci change the oil and filter. ford engines from the factory use a very high quality filter that filters down to about 8 microns. this filter is not available to the general public. I had a ranger v6 3.0 new that saw the oil changed at 2k and the oil and filter at 5k. this way you can get rid of most of the particulate laden oil and still get very good filtration for the duration of break in assuming of course chevy uses a quality oem filter.
