Hi,
This is my 1st ever UOA and I'd appreciate any and all comments!
(sorry for the poor formatting. I tried!)
2002 Ford Explorer
4.6L V8
61,000 miles on the truck.
9,500 miles on this oil sample.
This Explorer 4.6 calls for 5W-20. I ran a 50/50 mix of M1 EP 5W-30 and M1 5W-20 (6 quarts total capacity). This oil was run for approx 9,500 miles with a filter change at 5K into the OCI. A quart of M1 EP 5W-30 was added at that filter change and an additional .5 quart was added at 7.5K into the OCI. This vehicle is primarily driven by my wife with a 50/50 mix of highway/suburban traffic. This oil was in use from early April 2005 to the beginning of August 2005.
Blackstone's Comments:
Silicon was the only unusual finding in the sample from your Explorer. This may show some excess dirt getting past your air filter, so we suggest having a closer look at that. Or, it may not be from dirt since wear looks so good. Universal averages show typical wear from the Ford 4.6L after about 4,400 miles on the oil. You ran this oil longer, yet almost all wear read at or below averages. No fuel dilution or anti-freeze was found. The low insolubles show good oil filtration and the TBN was still okay at 2.6. 1.0 is low. Try 11,000-12,000 miles on the next oil.
