This is for my 2001 2500HD 6.0, 4L80E tranny, 120000 miles.

I am seriously contemplating to use amsoil. Therefore my first question is how do ya think the 5/30 HDD would do with my engine.

Second question what should I go with as far as the tranny, choices being between the universal ATF or Torque Drive ATD.

The Amsoil Series 3000 does great in large V8 engines. How long do you play to run oil changes?

Transmission, go with the Universal ATF, it is a better product than the ATD, in my opinion.

May want to give your vehicle an Auto-RX cleaning for engine and transmission beforehand, because of the amount of miles on it.

Not sure on OCI, will get UOA done to see how far I can go. What is the usual OCI with this oil?

Forgot to mention, having been using M1

The Confed Tyrant nailed it - his advice is spot on about the AutoRX, even with M1. The only beni of the ATD is the higher viscosity, but the add pack in the ATF is a tad better.

I say you can 10-15K on the oil or 1 year Max on the HDD. UOA is the way to go. Maybe 7500 first run.

I appreciate it if you purchase through my link in my signature.

Thanks,

Paul

I normally recommend the ASL 5W30 as it follows Amsoil's recommendation and can be used in more vehicles. Many of my customers run it 15,000 severe miles or 1 year whichever comes first. The HDD is about $2.50 more a quart and most don't want to pay the extra.

I usually recommend the ATF as it is available in quarts and can be used in other vehicles the customer may have. ATD is not available in quarts and is more expensive.

And get the Ea filters for the best filtration possible.

The 5w-30 would probably do fine with less than 10,000 mile oil changes, but the Series 3000 is far better in terms of longer oil changes as it can handle the contamination better. I agree with Pablo, go by a UOA to determine how long you can run it, but 10,000-15,000+ miles should be a lot easier to achieve with the Series 3000.

Did you also use Mobil 1 ATF? If you did, I wouldn't bother cleaning the transmission with Auto-RX, but would suggest one cleaning cycle in the engine using 3,000 miles for each phase with the cheapest oil you can find. Synthetics are good at keeping engines clean, but still could have a small amount of junk around the piston rings.
