You know, it gets me curious as to just how much Moly is being put into the newer formulation of QSUD (see below), or do you put together the seemingly excessive aluminum numbers (by Blackstone's account) with that and say my pistons are wearing excessively? Engine seems to be running solidly for 227400 miles being on it though....

Blackstone's Comments for 11/2/13 OCI: There's still a lot of aluminum in the oil from your Ram, but it did improve, just a smidge. Iron

improved by a lot, so it's sort of looking like this engine is on the right track. Although aluminum still has a

ways to go. Other good news: there is no contamination in the oil that you need to worry about, and the

viscosity is fine for a 10W/30. The TBN is strong at 3.2, so the oil can handle a longer oil run (even though

we don't recommend it for the engine just yet, due to aluminum). The air and oil filters are working well. Stick

with 4,000 miles to monitor aluminum.

I'm definitely thinking about it, but maybe in a 5w30 so I can have better cold-flow (though as to how much I'm not sure). It'll have to be done next time since my recent change was with 10w30

Edit: Actually I think I might know why my Moly numbers are so high now: I did add 1 qt for make-up at the 3500 mile mark.

That is very high aluminum IMO but I don't know what is normal for that engine. Thicker oil can bring aluminum down, one of the few places going thicker can help IMO. The 5w40 is a good idea, T6 is priced reasonable.

Probably got a partially stuck ring or 2 with that many miles. Aluminum isn't crazy high IMO for an engine that old. I'd keep doing what you're doing and go 6000 miles on the oil. TBN was rock solid. 10W-30 should be fine for SC, especially since you're using QSUD synthetic already. QSUD will clean that baby up and you'll get better results down the road. Relax and just keep on truckin'.
